I'm generally not a fan of random things, but IMO, ammo explosions and weapon/equipment damage in a MechWarrior game is a good thing.

Taking a risk for that extra salvo/few seconds of speed is a great idea. The further over you go, the higher the chance of things being permanently damaged become. As said by Virt, it is an extra consideration for the pilot to make.

If ammo is given a specific temperature before it goes off, people will just learn to stay just below that point. That is unrealistic and no fun long term.

Taking a risk knowing full well you'll probably die or severely damage components, but managing to pull it off is extra rewarding.

Make something idiot-proof and they'll make a better idiot.

A random element is realistic.

In real life, manufacturers rate their products to be safe to a particular temperature.   But that doesn't meant the product will fail at one degree higher than the nominal temperature.   In fact, the point at which that product will fail will vary significantly according to random qualities in the components used.

As a Mech pilot I want to know the safe operating temperature, and I want to be able risk going over that safe temperature if I think battle circumstances warrant it.   The higher I go over, and the longer I'm over, the great the risk.

So a degree of randomisation is not only realistic, it also adds a further strategic consideration to being a Mechwarrior.

I may not be the best Pilot out there, but in this case I would not mind the random element.
It makes it more realistic, and I for one are a big fan of realistic effects.

i think i agree with blurry HUD and slowing down on heat.

aswell as no flush!
the flush makes laserbots too easy.

Coolant is a limited asset, so flushing it away is a strategic choice ... good because it adds to our piloting options.

Balancing with heat sinks - as the devs have done - is I believe the right way to balance laser boats.

Plus, some maps are already 'biased' against laser boats, so they are a further mitigating factor.

Just put that epilepsy-inducing shake thing back in at full effect for critical overheat use, that way you can preserve coolant use, etc. for purpose but highly penalize "hot" mech aim and piloting.
