3d models
« on: July 24, 2010, 01:24:30 PM »
Hi there, until I start playing I want something to do, so I've decided to start modeling in 3d.

So i want to know what format the files are in, and can you use some free program like blender?

thanks

If its for importing the object into the Editor (Sandbox 2), the file needs to be imported into 3D Studio Max to be set up correctly with the Crytools and exported to the engine. 3DS Max is able to import most file extensions from Blender. The most used file type for exporting is .OBJ, (or .FBX).
You can use any 3D Software (GMax, Blender, TrueSpace, Wings 3D etc.) as long 3D Studio Max can import it.

3D Studio Max can Import:
3D Studio (*.3DS, *.PRJ)
Adobe Illustrator (*.AI)
LandXML / DEM / DDF (*.XML, *DEM, *.DDF)
Autocad Drawing (*.DWG, *.DXF)
Legacy Autocad (*.DWG)
Autodesk FBX (*.FBX, *.DAE)
Motion Analysis HTR File (*.HTR)
IGES (*IGE,*.IGS,*.IGES)
Autodesk Inventor (*.IPT, *.IAM)
Lightscape (*.LS, *.LP, *.VW)
Wavefront Object (*.OBJ & *.MTL)
3D Studio Shape (*.SHP)
StereoLitho (*.STL)
Motion Analysis TRC File (*.TRC)
VRML (*.WRL, *WRZ)
VIZ Material XML (*.XML)

Blender can Export:
3D Studio (.3DS)
AC3D (.AC)
Biovision Motion Capture (.BVH)
Collada 1.3.x & 1.4 (.DAE)
DEC Object File Format (.OFF)
DirectX (.X)
DirectX8 Mod 1.3.1 (.X)
DXF Extensible 3D (.X3D)
Lightwave (.LWO)
Lightwave Motion (.MOT)
MD2 (.MD2)
Nendo (.NDO) OpenFlight (.FLT)
OpenInventor (.IV)
Radiosity (.RADIO)
Raw Faces (.RAW)
SoftImage (.XSI)
Stanford PLY (.PLY)
Stereo Litography (.STL)
TrueSpace (.COB)
VideoScape VideoScape with Vertex Colors (.OBJ)
Wavefront OBJ (.OBJ & .MTL)
Wings 3D (.WINGS)
VRML 1.0 VRML 97 (.WRL)
Xfig Export (.fig)
