MW/BT MMO game?
« on: July 25, 2010, 12:15:17 AM »
I'm a big MW fan, and what really hooked me was MW3 back in the days.

Now I heard some talk once about a MMO game set in the MW/BT universe, and I was wondering if anyone know if such a game has been attempted or if it would be viable to make a MMO game based on this?

Dont get me wrong, I love the MW games, except MW4 which was crap and I never tried mechassault, and MWLL, but would I also like to play MMO games which is why the idea appeals to me.

Despite that I've never bought a game and then paid a monthly subscription out of principle, if this came out they could charge $100 for the game and $50/ month with extra surcharges thrown in for fun and I would be like "yes mistress thank you more please."

Unfortunately (or fortunately for the sake of my bank account) I've heard nothing about this.

Well I guess it would be difficult to make an MMO of it, but I have no idea about it.
The closest thing I have even come to seing a MW MMO is Perpetuum.
The game is currently in Beta stages, but the gamestyle is very similar to EVE.
Many have said its a EVE close only with robots, but the players dont wnat to hear that.
But whenyou play you dont get the feeling of running a big fighting machine quite the oposite, in fact micromachines would be a better description

Youtube video of ingame event should give you an idea of the size of things.

There was Multiplayer Battletech 3025 or MPBT 3025, but EA shut it down before it got out of beta IIRC...

Thats what I never understand, the lager gaming companies seem to develop games more or less in oposite direction of what the gmaing commuinty are interrested in.

When they come up with a good game that the community says "hey thats a great game, lets get that" its as if thats a que for them to stop development.

Still would have liked to see a MW/BT MMO game

they follow the money of course, and since WoW currently holds the title for most lucrative MMO its probably why you see so many based on fantasy instead of sci-fi.  Couple that with a relatively low interest in battletech universe, as opposed to say Star Wars or Star Trek which have MMOs of their own, its not hard to see why there hasn't be a second attempt at an MMO.  Though I imagine its possible that if Mechwarrior 3015 really does well (financially) it could open the gates later down the road.

Dont get me started on Star Trek Online, that was a tremedous superfail.
Its an arcade game disguised as an MMO nothing else.
They "resurrected" Data which died in Star Trek Nemesis.
They "ressurected" the borg wich was liberated in the Star Trek Destiny books.
They dont even have a fully 3D environment, the ships cant go more than 45 degree angle up or down.
You can get to max level in less than a week.

Sorry about the rant but when it scomes to Star trek, I cant help it.
I have been a huge star trek fan for over 15 years, and know a good deal of the lore and canon, and that game was one on the biggest dissapointments I have seen in gaming.
I have about 300 books and almost all the movies and TV series
They made and arcade game and disguised with as an MMO with some fancy colors and an MMO element.
And to think I participated in Beta and bought 2 separate copies of the game to get as many ingame bonus items as I could.

Back to topic, I really hope the do a god job with Mechwarrior 3015, as ths is one the the games I have followed through the years.
I was first hooked with MW3 which was a great game.
Then cam MW4, which was a crap game which pretty much played on the sucess of it predecessors.
Now we got MWLL, which in my honest opinion is the best of them all so far.

My only fear with 3015 is that the make it too FPS with mechs dieing fast all around  you but you get through most battles unscratched.

I dunno, the gameplay trailer was a good, lengthy brawl between a Warhammer and an Atlas.
