ASF are not fighter aircraft like we see in the 20th and 21st century's.

They're designed for use in space, and in the lore have small thrusters (like continuous jumpjets) in every direction for zero-g maneuvering...so who's to say that they can't land on a dime...under the right circumstances.

If 'mech jumpjets can propel a 95ton MkII 100m in the Air, I'm pretty surea ASFs  fusion powered thrusters could make a Shiva Hover (if only for a little while).

A thruster designed for maneuvering in space doesn't need to be nearly as powerful as one for one on land. You couldn't land the space shuttle Atlantis on a dime using the retro thrusters, even it was powered by a tokamak fusion reactor. You might be able to get an Aerospace fighter to hover or almost hover if you had a extremely dense atmosphere (tiny amount of forward movement will generate lift) or a very low gravity planetoid (i.e. Extremity). Trying to hover a 85 ton ASF in midair on a Earth-like planet would likely result in you plummeting to the ground  ::)

Not to mention do we really want to turn all the planes into some harrier hybrid. Damn that would not be fun to play against lol. Death from above would have a new meaning....

First of all. There is no fixed wing aircraft physics in Crysis. ASF are VTOL's with heavy forward thrust. Thats it.

Second, if you want to make a comparison, go to Sarna.net and watch the BattleTech Cartoon and watch how ASF take off and land. Yeah its a cartoon, but show me a more realistic BattleTech reference of a ASF in action. AFAIK ASF can take off and land in Dropships. Just how big is a runway in a Dropship exactly?

Also one thing I'll add. It should be no easier or harder to land a ASF then it is for a Mech to leave or enter a Mechbay. But you should have to do manually.

I'm probably one of the worst ASF around. But I can land them just fine. They are fine as they are. If we get auto land, lets get a auto thingy for entering a mechbay (sometimes that gets tricky running in on a light mech). Yeah.. how ridiculous is that?

Yeah I agree. Half the fun of playing ASF for me is lining up for a 'perfect' landing when my ASF Body is severely damaged.  Obviously there are some buggy deals associated with this at the moment, but honestly I believe 90% of the claims are just landing their planes wrong (Of course there is something wrong with some people randomly exploding).  I haven't crashed once, while landing or on the runway, in 2 weeks.

I think the option to be hovering in an ASF alone is unrealistic and should be penalized. Fighter jets today are designed so that they need constant thrust in order stay airborne. Taking the German Tornado jet as an example: The aerodynamics make it mandatory to move and engage thrust constantly, this way it is quite versatile, cut the throttle and you will fall to the ground like a rock however.
