CTD configuration
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:01:45 AM »
Trying to nail the Crash-To-Desktop issue many people are experiencing I will try to create a list of possible elements that might be in common with all configurations that crash.

If some part is not defined as in your configuration either post here or send me a pm and I will add it to the options.
I hope to find a possible cause.

Please only CTD which are NOT related to the Novacat. Because I have no problem whatso ever with NovaCats walking along or sitting in one. So this must be something else.

Would it help if I mentioned my hard and software since I have had no crash to desktop since 0.3.1? If so just tell me and I will post the list here.

You should add AVG to the antivirus, it is very common.

BTW, the poll is an excellent idea.

And Avast! antivirus, it's quite common.

Uh, what CTD?
Every CTD? Or just the ones that are not Nova Cat related?

Cause I am thinking that for the (in my case) most common CTD cause (CryAnimation.dll) its more or less confirmed its the Nova Cat, no? Regardless of hardware or software on the affected platform.

/Merf - Just trying to make sure the effort leads to something worthwhile

Don't want to overload the poll or anything, but of course "Microsoft Security Essentials" virus protection would be common for Win7 users. But then again, I use that and have not had a CTD in 0.3.x at all so perhaps its unrelated.

I've got a feeling that ATI might be a factor here, from what people have posted in the past. Thanks for the poll so we can finally see things for sure!

And Merf is right... but it could still point to what is more "crashy", ie. more sucsceptible to rigging type bugs. I've played against Novacats for hours (and sometimes in them) and have had no issues with my setup.

So... every CTD it is then?
Basically, if you have had a CTD EVER, tick the little boxes above?

/Merf - Yes/No?

afaik, yes, go ahead
People are stupid if they think they can have their own way.

... that is, unless they have HEAP rounds, high-explosive homing missiles, and terawatt lasers on a walking weapons platform, that is...

I'm missing ZoneAlarm security suite...
Dunno how common it is, but I use it...

Then again, disabling it before playing doesn't seem to affect CTD probability.

ATI Radeon 5700 here and I haven't had a CTD in 0.3.x yet ;)

I run Avast! and an AMD/ATi system and I don't CTD on the beta.  I honestly don't recall the last time I had a CTD in beta.  I've had a few servers crash but I didn't crash.

You neglected an option for older nvidia driver. I'm still using 197.45.

Throw SUPERAntiSpyware on there, since they have a passive running function. I don't use it for that but some people could.

There's also two disk versions of crysis: the original and maximum edition. I doubt they make a difference but we can't be sure.

I still get random crashes, but recently I managed to not crash at all by switching servers after a match or leaving after a match is over. I get shorter windows of playtime this way, but at least I get the satisfaction of pretending there isn't a crashing problem.

I use Norton Internet Security, this is both Norton Antivirus and firewall in one.
Not to be confused with Norton anitvirus, which does not have the firewall.

I voted, my insight:
I usually have winamp running, but it doesn't cause the crashes. I checked that.
