Starcraft 2
« on: July 29, 2010, 04:51:37 PM »
Anyone playing it? Personally I think it's pretty rad. The single player campaign is a tour de force of storytelling for the genre (someone at Blizzard really likes Firefly), and the multiplayer feels a bit faster and less clunky than the original. I'm really liking the new Zerg.

Is the single player a whole lot of base building like the original? or are there missions where you don't have a base to build at all? I've never liked the base building part of the old-school RTS games.

And since there isn't lan play, I was planning on passing on the game until it hit the $20 bargain bin. But if the single player is is really that good, i might change my mind.

I'd say the single player is very 90's like the SC1 but with better graphics and some fun interactive menu sequences between levels.

Definitely not worth $60 for single player alone imo, $30 maybe $20 definately

Was thinking about getting it

Never played the 1st one and don't know if I'll like the gameplay, but it's getting good reviews (Players and reviewers) and I like RTS

I'll probably get it when it's cheaper, just so I don't pay $60 for something I don't like, and I don't know whats going on in the story :-\

For reals, play sc1 and it's expansions it'll make sc2 much more appealing.  Game play wise, both games are almost exactly the same.

This. Though they took a lot of lessons from Warcraft 3, and MY GOD YOU AREN'T LIMITED TO SELECTING 12 UNITS AT A TIME.

The missions are mostly unique, they got pretty creative with it. I wouldn't say base building was a particularly large part of the first game's single player, nor its sequel. There are still some non-base missions, all of which are excellent. You get some super-powerful hero units to play with!

If any of you want someone to play with PM me your Real ID email address.

That's the reason why I never made it through Single Player SC1. Only did few multiplayer games, and got so frustrated with this stupid limit that I sold the game eventually.
How am I suppose to play a strategy game with something like this?! WTF?!

Either way: I read that there's one way to win all the missions in SC2: Build lots of "new" units (these given  for mission), along with some universal+healers, group them all, and move across the map wiping out everything.

BTW: This game price, or rather: Price for 1/3rd of what Star Craft 2 should be (cause *** Blizaard splitted the game into 3 parts instead of one) is ridiculous. Many better games were priced less... we're paying for the Blizzard logo in intro? What the....

You're paying mostly for the MP since Blizzard expects everyone to be playing ladder games instead of the campaign ;)

I really hope that Blizzard wasn't thinking that multiplayer is the privilege reasoning twice the normal price.
I was thinking that this crazy price is for all the movies in campaign.... though when I realized that paying for cinema ticket gives me 2 ours full of amazing 3D effects, I went back to "that's damn too expensive for the product value" altitude.

Isn't the campaign about the same length as most games, so it's more like getting "three books to read a story" kinda thing?
If they did it differently, wouldn't the game still be in development and be less polished overall? (because of people wanting it naow! + no money from releasing the first one)

Another question: will the other two games also be $60? Will they come with multiplayer improvements/game modes? (Like Dawn of War)
Or will it just be a new story?

I bought it even though I'm not typically into RTS. The single player has been pretty fun so far, I may give the multiplayer a try though I'll prepare to get my ass handed to me.

Got another question. Does the Single player require internet connection to run? e.g. can you physically unplug your Ethernet jack, start up single player campaign, and it works?

My internet connection is unreliable, and thus any single player game I buy can't require an internet connection. (I have been unable to play MW:LL for the past 2 days for this very reason, and calling to complain to the only ISP in town doesn't get very far).
