Sudden pilot death syndrome (SPDS) means that landing is extremely hazardous even if you've a professional pilot; you come in for a landing, land fine, come to a stop, then you suddenly explode and loose rank. Once SPDS is fixed, I'd be fine with having to land to restock on ammo.
This. Also good luck landing anything smaller than a Shiva. Here's how it usually goes.
1) Pilot comes in for a landing, eases back on throttle, goes low, and levels out pointing slightly toward the ground
2) Pilot cuts throttle to land without crashing
3) Plane goes into a slow tail spin. Crysis says "how do I momentum?"
4a) Having cut the throttle a
little too early, the plane's tail touches the ground first at ~5kph and it explodes violently
4b) Having cut the throttle a
little too late, the plane's body touches the ground first at ~50kph and it explodes violently if it was orange/red in damage already (oh well, no repair for you, enjoy your suicide and rank loss)
4c) The pilot got lucky, and the plane's body lands first either at a slow speed or at a fast speed without much preexisting damage. Repair and rearm are successful. Even then, sometimes...
5) SPDS strikes - enjoy your suicide and rank loss again
