Target targets target

In some games there was the option to target the unit the currently target is engaging (targeting). This would make it a lot easier for large groups to focus fire on one mech.

And for all fans of the lore, make this option only available for the Inner Sphere :D

An aid function.... hmmm not a bad idea but I'd prefer just having a "lock target under reticle" function.

That thing you mentioned would fit in an mmo rather than in a mechwarrior game. Also it that was possible it would technically mean that every mech would have some sort of C3 system and would therefor collide with that equipment.

Wait, what? This already exists no? Aim reticule on asset of choice -> press Q -> asset is targetted (provided circumstance allow for the asset to be targeted).

/Merf - Use it all the time

"Target target's target" eh. Just gave me a flashback of my Freespace days 8) . While on it how about a "target target's attacker"
key also. Of course there's the issue that you need to see your target's current target (or attacker) on your radar first to have it targeted. Also if I currently have a friendly targeted (many people as well as I often do that to check the situation of nearby friendly units) targeting my target could confuse the inexperinced (though if they know enough to target target's target that could as well know enough).

There are several problems here:
First one: typing is slow, and as voip is inaudible the only option for communication.
Second: Newcomers cannot distinguish between the different mechs. And I wont start describing a mech while in a fight. (Especially not when the lines are cut off after X symbols... who did this?)
Calling out coordinates is ok, but far from accurate.

Bind [key] say_team "Attack my target".
(Eyes should be able to tel what target your friend is shooting at.)

I would think something like the above is possible in Crysis? I didn't bother to look up the actual commands, but they tend to look something like that.
Yes I agree that being able to see your targets target could be a good feature, but it might not be worth the effort if we can find good ways around it. So I'm just tossing out some ideas how one can "make do" in the mean time.

Semi-related: Ideally I would like to be able to have both a friendly and a hostile targeted at once. Would really help when establishing fire teams. easier to see your "partner" and you can see its health as well, while at the same time be able to have a target of your own selected. Even better would be if when you have a friendly targeted like this his/her target would be highlighted in a minor way and your own primary target highlighted in the current way. Buuut I am probably wishing for a bit much here.

/Merf - Remember the good old times in Quake when team comms where handled by a proxy server transalting triggers like %1 in say_team commands into the players current position on a map, or current health etc.
