Crysis graphics settings resetting themselves
« on: August 31, 2010, 05:02:26 PM »
I have an Intel i7-860, 8 gigs of RAM, Gigabyte GTX 480, 300 gig Raptor HDD. Dual boot: Hacked XP pro corporate ( 32 bit ) / Hacked Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit ( I use Win 7 for Crysis / MWLL 64 bit ).

I have AA set at 16q ( I don't even know what the q means and don't notice any difference with AA set to off ).

I like to have VSYNC on to avoid tearing but it keeps resetting to VSYNC off.

In the beginning of a gaming session, I set ( all ) the graphics to high ( object texture is often greyed out and locked to custom ).

The graphics settings reset themselves to some random stuff ( higher spec than I would want - serveral "custom" settings ) which results in FPS lag because it decides to do this in the middle of a game! I'm constantly fighting the Crysis graphics settings.  >:(

What's going on? Is there a way to hard code the settings. Where are the Crysis graphics settings info stored?

I think the optimize settings button that analyzes your computer is corrupted somehow. I don't particularly want to uninstall and reinstall Crysis itself because i noticed this problem in the single player campaign.

Does anyone have this problem, is there a work around?

Yes, I have a topic about this in the bug forum.  It is cured by going into your game directory and setting your game.cfg to "read only", and put your graphic settings in game.cfg vs. using the in-game menu.  Do not use the in-game menu.

I'm not sure what causes this and I have no feedback from anyone about it.  I think maybe some level of graphic settings starts this going on.  The other machines I have with lower graphic settings do not have the issue.

I have AA set at 16q ( I don't even know what the q means and don't notice any difference with AA set to off ).

Quincunx

Quincunxes are used in modern computer graphics as a multisampling pattern for anti-aliasing. Quincunx antialiasing samples scenes at the corners and centers of each pixel. These five sample points, in the shape of a quincunx, are combined to produce each displayed pixel. However, samples at the corner points are shared with adjacent pixels, so the number of samples needed is only twice the number of displayed pixels.

Make sure that the AA is set to "Program" dependend and not locked by the drivers own software.

I edited the file and it ungreyed some stuff in the in-game menu. I changed the major graphics settings from 3 to 2, vsync to 1 and motion blur to 0.

I don't know what the effect will be, I'll have to play and see.

some of the settings are usually greyed out because they are offshoots of other graphics settings and should not be tampered with........

I don't spontaneously lag from higher in-game graphics settings now *shrug*

Somebody mentioned in another thread that MWLL installs itself in two different places, which is why deleting one set of files and then reinstalling is causing general problems. ie. on my computer i have files in:

C:  / Program files (x86 ) / Electronic Arts / Crytek / Crysis / Mods / MWLL /

but also:

Libraries / Documents / My Games / Crysis / MWLL

I don't know; I imagine that the mod writes over the files in the second directory?

The main files write to the 1st directory, the 2nd is used for saves, cache, and screenshots basically any type of file that needs to be written to disk.
