Bringing the Operatic Grandeur to Mechwarrior (courtesy of Jeehun Hwang) we have MechWarrior 2:

Golden Spade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAQxocc8BMc&feature=related  Can still see my Mad Dog Prime running down the mesa canyons, taking a 100m tall viaduct out with LRMs (watching a Kit Fox fall to it's death), wasting some tanks with the Large Pulse Lasers and then on to the Mediums and Heavies 1vs 1 until splashing the reactor at the end of the valley and getting out before it goes critical, the throttle was at 100% the entire time.

Arkham Bridge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ0LAs9KiXc&feature=related  Pure Epicness, gotta love an ostenato violin line for tension.

Iron Piston: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB0oxICsbOI   Creeping Danger Sudden Violence (we need Chinese characters)

Armor Veil: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZXdYKlKPxI&feature=related  The Horns calling you to the Hunt, more ostinato than you would shake a stick at and memories of some of the hardest fights in MW2.

Pyre Light: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX4G1RJYTi8&feature=related  Memory:the Dropship Bannockburn won't kill itself you know...dunes and Jenners and ripping up the rolling hills in my HellBringer

Temper Edge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSgpH-0L91Y&feature=related  Another Epic Loop, more building tension.

Velvet Hammer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqaHy5xRUDY&feature=related I love it because it's almost like a Fugue.

Flame Tongue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNlMuiOdnpI&feature=related  I love the way this track lumbers against inevitable tension of the harmonic and rythmic dissonances, and again the Horns of War are never bad.  Memories of running through a city killing Heavies, and keeping pushing fast because time is running out 8)

Wolf Trial 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNWK8qqfpyE&feature=related  Another Epic loop, and you never forget your first Trial for Position ;)

MechWarrior 2:Mercs; although this has some of my favourite tracks, and I love the less pretentious Inner Sphere Heavy Metal approach   as a counterpoint to the Clans Orchestral pomposity ;)  Trouble is I don't have the tracks and you tubes pretty poor in that regards too, so here's some links of samples (not even the full loops but good for an idea anyways):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g4jgcv0kVA

Of course, to emphasis my point in the Clan v IS difference, at 4.10 it gets very epic and operatic when they're fighting clanners, this is the music for the end-sequence movie (Battle of Dinju Pass, Tukayyid, where the combined armies of the Clans lost to ComStar, the movie is of the last Smoke Jaguars on the Planet being finished off by the Inner Sphere) this was also used for a campaign final mission ("The Killing Fields", set at the climax to the Battle of Luthien, where the Smoke Jaguars and Nova Cats were beaten senseless by Inner Sphere).

MechCommander Gold "Desperate Measures":

The attached WAV audio file is the main screen music for MCG:DM, love the horns and whistling pipes, spooky and whistful, suits a campaign set in the ruins of a Star League era facility on a very alien world, with the last of the Jaguar remnant being hunted down for extinction, before they can "set us up the bomb".  A slow burning loop that you'll eventually be incapable of getting out of your head :)

NM...server doesnt like WAV files, if anyone wants to hear it I'll PM it to you.

Love all those MW2 songs. Actually hear them every time I load up MW:LL. Just makes an epic game even more epic.

Don't know about MW3 and 4. As far as I remember they did not have many tracks, especially not that good ones.

Love all those MW2 songs.

Me too, but probably just because they're dripping with nostalgia.
#mwll, where all the anuschat happens
(2:46:59 PM) Pytak: vicious anus
(2:47:09 PM) haarp: it hungers
(2:48:01 PM) Pytak: for moar

(11:38:04 AM) Merf: I can touch everything.
(11:38:07 AM) Merf: Prepare your anus
(11:38:50 AM) Merf: It is okay. I am your father, which makes it totally not creepy

I don't remember MW3s music at all  :-[

All I can remember was having the Soundtrack CD for the movie Gladiator playing in the tray, so maybe we all just played our own CDs while we played MW3?

MW4 had some good tracks, here and there, but they were'nt of the same level of Awesome as MW2 and MW2:Mercs (but I think that's probably because of the nostalgia of MW2 & MW2:Mercs).

Just an FYI but "Pyre Light" was the name of the mission. The track is ( supposedly ) called "Steel Tranquility":

2 min 17 seconds:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78ysrowWrzI

I used to play the Pyre Light ( desert / Sandblasted ) mission over and over, just so I could listen to the track.

You can download the tracks here:

http://www.thealmightyguru.com/VGMPF/Game.php?Id=MechWarrior2-W32

I never played anything other than the basic MW 2 because all of the reviews showed that the quality was starting to decline.

I also have Master of Orion 2 tracks.

Intro:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgfzf2AXWxA

Lose and the game laughs at you ( the AI was brutal, like The Terminator ):

Let's Play Master of Orion 2

My favourite is the Elerian race's track ( which plays during diplomatic relations - each race has it's own theme ):

http://dvc.f2o.org/moo2/moo2.htm

The Elerian's were a matriarchal, telepathic race that could mind control a planet from orbit, without the need to invade:

They were very scary because I could feel my mind slipping away just from being in the same room:

Definitely No Mans Land, Perimeter Assault and Cover of the Night. So pure dramatic songs they are. :D

I loved the soundtrack back in the days and seldom played a game that had such an intense OST to offer to emphasize the immersion.

Seriously????????
That was one of the worst games of all time.  A complete insult to the orignial, frustrating, bugged to hell and ultimately annoying.  I hated MoO2 soooo much I never played any other Atari game since (although I doubt theyu got to make many more after that uberflop).

The original Master of Orion?  Now that was some epic gaming (it actually burnt-out the part of your brain that wanted to stop playing it and go outside).

You played the patched version , right?

The game had a steep learning curve ( I came close to giving up on it - I can't remember if I played the pre-patched version at that time ).

My top 3 games of all time, on any format are ( all on the PC ):

2)

If anyone doubts the awesomeness of the Moo2, just read independent reviews:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/masteroforion2baa/players.html?tag=player-reviews%3Bheader%3Bmore

The original Moo1 was for children. I played a game where the Meklars invaded with a negative number around 32, 768 ( so some dumbass programmer used a signed integer as a data type for the # of ships ).

Moo2 is for geniuses.

Why do you think Moo2 is the benchmark for all 4x games? No dev team has surpassed the AI ( and the game came out in 1996 ).

All hail Moo2.

Ok, I never played "the patch" and TBH I'm intrigued.

There were so many glaring flaws with Moo2...I'd be stunned if ANY patch fixed the 101s flaw in the game, truly I would be.

MoO for children? Well at least in the original game Star Gates were the end-level technology and not the basis of interstellar travel like in Moo2, fleets had to travel around, creating situations and crisis's of their own.  I expected much more of Moo2 (including the chance of a peaceful confederation win-condition for the game...after all some species..like gas bags...have little to fear from carbon-based humanoids....so there was no reason for the game to stay so species purists either...could have been so much more).  And in the original diplomacy worked, in Moo2 diplomacy is almost pointless.

Simple things like launching nuke raids on other systems were borked...you'd jump in and launch infintiy-1 nukes at a planet and jump out before the enemy got into range to return fire...and only 20% of the damage would register..if you were lucky.....made strategic bombing pointless, I spent years just turning up and launching nukes at the enemy just to keep this development in check....became endlessly tedious.

And then you'd get to planets infested by the "aliens" that liked to eat folks, you'd glass the planet, bring them down from 100% facilities & factories and thousands of folks to 12 "aliens" and nothing else....but no matter what you did, no amount of orbital bombardment would clear the last few dangerous creatures, so you'd have to build with folks scared to be "eaten alive". Nuking from Orbit was not "the only way to be sure" and thus sucked.

I can't believe that 1 patch could solve the many thousand problems with that game.......would so love to be wrong though.

EDIT: Errr...I checked my boxes and it's Moo3 that is the abomination, not Moo2 (which is one of the best games ever).....my bad.

I wanted to accuse you of absolute heresy, Heretic, but then you corrected yourself. I loved MOO2 and still play it sometimes in dosbox.

Mechcommander 1 Mission Successful theme, absolutely awesome.

In a groundbreaking new feature, MWLL will include a new gametype: MechRockerBandHeroKersplosion.  Pilots will smash the throttle to classic 80's speed metal using custom ethernet plugin to real guitars.  PPC's will be triggered by power chords, and LRM ammo is selected by playing one of 17 distinctive hammer-on rifts.  Get a teammate elemental to hop up on your mech's shoulder and throw up the horns, and with a hot duel you can deflect enemy fire BY THE POWER OF YOUR ROCK!

As does everyone else, I love the MW2 soundtrack in general. I haven't played Mercs yet, but Dragon's Teeth stands out.

Mercs is quite amazing you really should pick it up, I'd suggest getting the one that comes with the DOS version since its super easy to set up with Dosbox and a frontend for it like DeFend Reloaded

oh and another great MW2 Mercs track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUIsg05nI80&feature=related
