MWLL Server status Windows Vista/7 gadget
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:37:32 AM »
*UPDATE* - I just updated the gadget and added all of the servers currently active on gametrackers.com. Please let me know if there are more that should be added, I simply added any Crysis Wars server running an MWLL map. Same as before, rename the .zip to .gadget and double-click to install.

EDIT: lonkero173 had made some great updates to this gadget, it now has every MWLL server tracked on Gametrackers available to choose for the list, customizable colors and better code. Check it out, attached file is most recent version. Thanks again, lonkero173

This board won't let me attach .gadget files, so just rename the .zip files to .gadget and double-click to install.

Thanks for this!

EDIT: won't work for me sorry.    Asks me if I want to install, but when I click 'yes' ... nothing happens.   Could it be that I'm using 64-bit Vista?

It's working for me now, though the gadget is double the width of the sidebar.   That is, it extends to the left beyond the sidebar boundard and into the main desktop area.

It may (?) be due to a difference in screen resolution between your machine and mine.

Hmn... seems like it's designed for only Windows 7 in mind. It doesn't have a sidebar with a fixed width.
I'm using it now and it's cool. Now I don't have to start mwll just to look if there are people online. ^^

it's a cool gadget, even though the refreshes are ugly as you said... xD

However, do you think it might be possible to customize the servers shown in the box?
Problem is the only server which is usefull to me is the Matchbox #2 EU-UK, because I have aweful pings on all others...

It is possible Sesambrot, just look at my little screenshot.
  • Rename the .gadget back to .zip
  • Extract the contents
  • Open MWLLStatus.html
  • Search for "http://cache.www.gametracker.com/server_info/", these are the servers to query.
  • Edit the IP adress after /server_info/ to the IP of the wanted server.
  • Make a new zip file of your new MWLLStatus.html and gadget.xml
  • Rename to .gadget and reinstall it via doubleclicking

This is really useful Toasterpastries - thanks again for coding it  :D

Now I see that there are 20 people playing on TLL 3, so I must depart the forums.

Since this really needs a bit more polish:
I present an improved version that allows for adding/removing servers without mucking about with any files. Click anywhere on the widget to get everything visible and use the text field at the bottom to add the IP of any server you want added.
Refreshing still looks awfull but I might be able to do something about that tomorrow, still have to figure out some more javascript. I also intend to make the colors configurable.

The code is completely redone, this one uses much more javascript.

Same installation procedure as with the original one. It also looks pretty much identical so no screenshots.

Thank you lonkero! I had the idea but very raw skills to make it happen.
I'm not sure about the notion of adding servers by IP address, I feel like that's going to confuse people into thinking that whatever server IP they put in there will work, totally not the case. The server has to be tracked on Gametracker.com to get this image banner.
I think it would be easier and more straightforward to add every MWLL server on Gametracker (~25) and have check boxes of which to include.

Custom colors should be easy enough...

These values are hex values for the colors used in the image, in this order:
Top Color
Font Color
Bottom Color
Border Color

It is worth noting that I tweaked the sizes of the image banners to attempt to make them more readable and fit on a desktop better. If there is some way to permanently trim the graph and unnecessary parts of the image off, and have it expand to the left instead of the right, that would be much better also.

Let me know if there's stuff I can help on, you seem to know what you are doing way more than me.

I have the color system figured out (trial and error ftw!), I just need some sort of UI for changing them (should be easy enough). I also changed to banner sizes back to their native resolution as I prefer small text over blurry text.

You're right, having a full list and check boxes is probably a better idea. Although now it works for any server that gametracker tracks and giving an IP address that is not tracked just produces a banner saying that it isn't tracked. Getting rid of all the extra stuff in the banners should be pretty straightforward as well at least for the stuff on the edges as the visible area can be changed trivially.

Also there is a little bug with the current version, every time it reloads it shows the text input box. This will be fixed.

This widget is the first time I'm doing anything with javascript and I'm not exactly a pro with html either but since this is far from the first time I'm coding learning is fast. Also this is by far the easiest method to build a simple UI I have seen.

Edit: having some issues with the refresh, for some reason it likes to resize the widget wrong...
