Mech/Variant you're trying to master?
« on: September 07, 2010, 10:47:34 PM »
Is there a mech/variant out that peaks your interest that you're trying to master?  It could be the latest Nova Kitty for maximum energy boatage, or the Bushy Prime cause damit there's not such thing as a useless mech.

Point is what mech taunts you in your sleep saying "well if you were a better pilot you could get kills in anything..."

for me it's the Warhammer B.  Every time I run into this varient it seems likes it takes forever to bring it down while it's just mess'n my day up with this heavy weapons.

BUT when i'm in it, it blows up faster then if I was in a Kit Fox  >:(  I will tame this war beast one day just for the sake that AC10's need love and MRM30 is like murder on a stick when used at close range.

I've been rockin the Thanatos prime lately, and have found success, I have yet to stay in the field long enough to use the two free tons of ammo on the MRM20 though, spamming it at everything including Ba and Aeros, I always need to repair first.

On the flip side, the Warhammer Prime has lost its shine with me, I can't seem to pilot anything slower than 86kph without getting stomped anymore... :-\

The Mauler Prime is awesome but endlessly frustrating because of the depressingly bad damage the AC2s do to ground targets.
I had a UAC scat come up to be and he nearly killed me because the hours and hours of AC2 fire did shit to his UAC arm, I finally damaged it enough with my lasers to scare him off though. If you stay back it can do nice damage if you fire the LRMs at any narcs and spam the UAC2 on everything you see.

I'm looking into trying the Hgauss Thanatos and trying out the Hollander again.
I keep telling myself I will use the Atlas Prime,A,B, but I always think the better of it.

I'm just the opposite.  I try to make up excuses to take the WH prime (I can't help myself - I just like it).  They should drop the price to 89,999 for it, imo., because it would be a great mech for the money "deadzone".

I started forcing myself to take Holly-C out on several maps - and there too, using it appropriately, it can be very fun (but a lot of people use it very poorly).  I swear I get some of the best early rank-ups in what most people would consider a weak choice (again, map-appropriate).

I've also started forcing myself to use scats.  Dunno why, but I have never done well in them.  The UAC scat (whatever that is) just frustrates me to no end, but I've seen some people just go to town in it.

Agree on Atlas.  I can't recall the last time I bought one (any of them...).

Anything that flies for me. I'm still working on getting the controls from being so twitchy.

Massive respect to anyone who can use the Bushwacker Prime effectively, I certainly can't...

Maybe I'll take it out repeatedly in a fit of stubborn determination, to die gloriously with my UAC10 pinging off the armour of my foes and LRMs arcing over their heads :D

Yeah so Bushwacker prime / C, any of the Hollanders and the Uziels. Basically the walking coffins everyone in their right mind avoids.

P.S. there is no 'mastering' the Novacat, you just hop in and laser away to victory!!

+1 to truth. Made me laugh.  ;D

The Uziels are not walking coffins they are pretty good actually, the hollanders other than the UAC20 just take the patience of a saint to use correctly, give Holly prime CDT rank pricing and I'm all over it.

Uller Prime

It actually has surprisingly good firepower, but it's just not maneuverable enough to navigate heavy fire from heavier mechs.

Bushwhacker Prime

It really works best in those long matches where everyone's picked out their camping spot.  It can lay down a good deal of fire against a target that isn't moving laterally, but once it gets into close range, anything faster than it, and that's a lot of assets, can essentially disable the UAC10.

Lokis need no mastering.  You can just outmaneuver any target until you solve whatever is ailing you.
Thanks for the view.

Warhammer... C(?) I think.  The Pulse laser one.  I usually don't get Warhammers but I used that thing once and utterly raped with it..  I think I need to hop in it more often and learn.  Seems great on medium->short distance maps.  Particularly if you can avoid being focus-shaken to death.

Mad Cat Prime, when I have teammates who are kind enough to lend me the credits to afford it.  Everyone seems to love the PPCs instead, but I've found a great amount of joy hiding well behind my Assault buddies and raining LRM 20's on my target's heads.  That beautiful arc makes it easy enough to get around my friends.

The lasers are just added bonus.  Sure, I don't hit as hard as you PPC slingers, but I have a crap ton of fun moving that classic 'Mech.

Otherwise?  I'm trying to get good at Battlearmor and landing headshots with a PPC...  Hell, I'll start out on foot when the game starts, just because I love the ambience of the early battlefield.

its the MADCAT PRIME or otherwise known as the TIMBERWOLF PRIME

this mech overheats in stages..i have messed with groupings and it still overheats!

if im able to get it running right with the heat it would give a nova cat a run for its money!
I was a mechwarrior like you once; until i took a arrow to my mech's knee ...

Scat be for me. Trying to use stealth and Hit and Run tactics with it. I'm trying to improve my gunnery with that big hitting CLBX20, whilst evading incoming fire and reducing exposure. Not having too much luck tbh, it's hard to ignore the brawler in you when u brain tells u it's tiome to do the 'run' bit :D

Hgauss thanny, Ltgauss Thanny (love this one actually), iPoke in early matches.  Madcat Prime is a really good mech for late game use. You can get a very nice rhythm going on the ER lasers and lrms that keep you close to redline but easy to override without taking damage.
