I'd like to say a couple of things here, partly venting/ranting partly because I see a lot of slightly-too-fierce attitudes. First off, one thing people don't seem to get is that if someone points out an imbalance and suggests a change that's not ridiculous (like revamping entire systems or removing variants/assets/weapons) it's not "whining" and furthermore a balanced game is a fun game. I've made passing comments about this or that being slightly imbalanced in a pub game before and several times been met with one of two arguments. Either, "Stop whining, the devs do this on their free time," as if I think MWLL is a steaming pile of dog leavings, or "Stop whining, that's how it is in CBT.
Now, I'd like to make one thing clear. Fun is more important than being like CBT and balanced things are fun. I don't care what any of you will say to this. It's not called Battletech: Living Legends or Realtime Battletech or any such thing for a reason. There are concepts that don't translate well from CBT to a realtime environment, there is a thread for that though. Furthermore, fun should be in the action. Fun, IMHO, isn't getting lots of kills for little to no effort, which is why it astonished me when I saw someone suggesting that other mechs should be more like the novacat, as if nerfing is always bad, because a game where everyone kills each other instantly is really fun, right? No. We're not a CoD:Mod2 community, I'd like to think we're more mature than that. I could care less about my KDR in public games.
Rant time.
Another example of this is when I suggested that CERPPCs were a bit too powerful. The combination of high damage, heat transfer, EMP, and cockpit shake is just a bit much. The response I got was "Well there's no knock down damage, so they're nerfed already. You want to make it less like CBT?" This pretty much encapsulates everything I've been saying so far. When I elaborated on my opinion, that with the way heat sinks work it's extremely punishing toward low heat IS mechs which can hardly dissipate heat at all save through coolant, they argued first "Clan tech IS SUPPOSED TO BE SUPERIOR" followed by "What makes a good pilot is the ability to return fire" (I guess clanners can aim during a 6 second bout of cockpit shake thanks to the barrage of a PPC boat nova) and concluding with several statements inferring that I'm just a bad player. This kind of behavior infuriates me, and resorting to personal attacks after your logical fallacies become apparent is the least mature thing you can do in an argument. Sad to say, I see this on the forums more often than I do in the game.
Sorry for ranting, but I'm feeling rather misanthropic right now, and it pisses me off when people who just want an argument call you a whiner at the first opportunity.
