NovaCat with GECM?
« on: September 20, 2010, 10:06:34 AM »
Yesterday I noticed that my NovaCat (5CERLasers) had this red circle around it when checking the map. My radar was active, so this would indicate GECM. But neither the Hud or the wiki say that it should have GECM. And sometimes the novaCat seems to be invisible or hard to find.

I will need to try this some more times to be 100% sure, but there seems to be something wrong about it.

I've noticed this about the NCAT too. One of the variants seems to be invisible on radar at certain ranges.  It would be worth testing it.  On numerous occasions I've been surprised by how close the NCat got to me without me picking it up on radar and it's the only asset where I've noticed this. Granted all my evidence is anecdotal and I don't have time to test these days.

If you get it somehow reproducable that would be great. Testing for feelings is hard ^^

most nova cats probably run passive since they're sneaky little bastards, make sure to take that into account

I now seem to recall being surprised I was unable to target a Novacat in close range earlier. It would have to have ECM for that to happen. Hmmn. Too bad I can not recall much about the incident beyond it being on mirage and me being in the adder prime. For all I know there could have been an Atlas with AECM nearby... (lawl, I am joking of course. No one use that).

Not much more useful info from me, but at least putting some more weight behind it to make it worth testing properly I would hope.

/Merf - Will try to remember to test this out when the opportunity arise.

Not to add more variables but I seem to recall my incidents being on mirage as well.  I'm not sure how the two could be related but it's worth testing on mirage first.

I use the Novacat almost exclusivly to any other mech on Mirage, and well.... either I am a hell of a ninja pilot or there is something to this, as I reguarly find myself surprsing both myself and the other team.

I've made many jokes about novacat's with phantom ECM, as they seem to have a habit of not showing up on radar.

Haha I thought you told me I was mistaken when I asked about ECM and Novacat's after a duel I had one day Maus.  Looks like we are building some more anecdotal evidence in any case.

I tried the Laser Cat on Thunderrift yesterday and there was no indication on the map of ECM. I tried some wierd combinations of shutdown while passive/active trying to trigger something but without results.

I will have to try on different maps as well. As far as I can recall it happened on Marshes.

The current issue with the novacat causes the bouding box of the legs to go invaild sometimes. For radar we use a CryEngine collision function that most likely relies on a valid bouding box. So this bug is most likely due to the same reasons that the novacat crashes the game.

I was wondering if the crashing and the radar were connected but didn't have the knowledge to connect the two.

We will do something about the novacat in the next release. Then we will see if this will fix the GECM issue too.

I have to wonder if battle armor ever suffers from a similar issue.  Occasionally, they're a bit squirrely on the radar screen.
Thanks for the view.
