well im planning to get a xbox 360 or a ps3 for my media center for my 46" widescreen tv

what are the pros and and cons of either system? (plz keep the disscussion factual and nice )

Pretty much it comes down to what games you want to play. Both systems have good selections, both look good, so its really up to you.

The PS3 does have the blueray player, always handy. The 360 has had issues with construction in the past, dunno if this is still applicable.

xbox if you have lots of friends on it already and like paying for multiplayer

As far as exclusives goes, fps go xbox, everything ps3

I have a 360, purely because I prefer the controller and am a big fan of the Halo series.  I second Squaresphere's comment on FPS gaming and the 360, for me it just feels more natural.

360, you do have to pay for multi, which is kinda a bummer, but if you purchase a year, it's not too bad.  What's criminal is the fact that you don't have the option from the beginning to cancel auto-renewal.  You used to have the option online to change it, but now you have to ring up, which is pretty annoying.

Get a 360 if you have lots of friends who play online xbox live, or if you're really interested in the Halo series.

Otherwise the PS3 is probably a better choice for the fact that it comes with the blu ray player for movies and has mostly the same games anyway, plus of course its got the metal gear series.



I personally have a 360 and want to eventually get a PS3 for that dual purpose of blu ray playing, but also because I'm a gaming junkie

I don't have anything against the ps3, i just feel the 360 has a superior controller for the way I play and what I play.

 I always felt the opposite. PS controllers seemed more comfortable and ergonomic for me. 360 gamepad is bulkier, heavier and has it's sticks and buttons positioned in a way that makes it uncomfortable to use. But then again, I never owned one for myself, I just play one at my friend's house sometimes so maybe it just need more time to get used to it.

 Personally I don't own any of 7th gen console, I stopped after buying PS2 and never updated my console after that; I'm mostly a PC gamer anyway. As for games, PS has more exclusive games of japaneese origins, while 360 has more FPSs(yet this segregation seems to be less strict lately), so maybe this could help you make a choice. My call would probably be PS3, but it's mostly because of my past as an otaku. Still loving japanese stuff.

well i have been checking the systems out..   

xbox pros...xbox 360 a hair better fps for gaming and a better system for online play (xbox live),better shaders
                                                                       
xbox cons...trouble in the past on hardware ring of death. movies are limited to netflix streaming (and zune?)  and
                   you have to pay fifty u.s. dollars for xbox live (im really splitting hairs here ).

ps3 pros...ps3 has blu ray (that is rumored to be blu ray 3d upgradeable.. yay my $1500 ONE year old tv needs to be replaced to use it.)
                 has the ability to use massive abount of textures for a game using blue ray access.

ps3 cons..not as many games that use the ps3's cell processing power (just ports of xbox). interface is not "noob" friendly.

another option is to build a media computer..man this is a tough one

I'd say the 360's biggest advantage is the arcade. PS3s are really hard to code for, so not many indie devs touch it. Except for the exclusive giants like Halo and MGS, they're not so different in their libraries anymore. Personally I find the 360 controller much more intuitive for shooters, and the PS2/3 controller more natural for movement-focused games like Ratchet & Clank and Katamari.

But I also tried the other two, and indeed I found them to be pretty similar...

I can, from direct experience, confirm that the dreaded ring of death problem on the 360 has been SOLVED*.
Just make sure you get a model that has the NEW hardware installed (don't ask me how to find out, I dunno LOL ¯\(°_o)/¯)
Also I find the 360's controller to be the better of the two.  I even bought one for my PC.
You just don't get a better one for this price
Also WE found the picture looked better using a VGA-cable (sold seperately ), rather than an HDMI,
That is, of course, if your TV has the connector for a VGA?

PS3; well online gaming is free of charge, which is good.
Didn't notice ANY difference in graphics. We were playing on a 42" LCD.
On our 3rd day of testing, the Blu-ray drive failed... which seems to be a common problem, dunno if they solved it later

What ultimately lead my friend to pick the 360 was one game:
Star Wars: The force unleashed.

Yes, it IS available on both... but (it seems) M$ payed good monehz to make sure it just doesn't run so well on the PS3.
The controls were sluggish, and the framerate suffered a good bit when there was lots of action on the screen.
On 360 it was a very fun experience.

*My Friend had one about 14 months after he bought his 360, he called the service line about 15 minutes after they "opened", and the guy on the other end told him he was the 20th "red ring" that day.  It seems there was a faulty connection between the GPU and its board. They replaced the whole GFX module for a similar brand (I HEARD they actually kicked NVIDIA and are now using ATIs, but I can't find solid evidence...)

Personal, i much prefer the 360, a lot of reasons, for one. It was no so much of a rip off when both gaming consoles were out, like i wanted to pay for a $1000 gaming console that came with a 60 or 80 Giga byte harddrive.  , and pay an extra $120 to get the 120 Giga Byte harddrive, which i find quite...wasteful. Sure, you may have to pay for Xbox live, but it as much more features, and normally a lot more people. ( Even if they are 12 year olds, on who i some times mistake as other females due to there high pitched voices. >_> ), and the key reasons why everyone gets the 360 is because of Halo, which may be the reason why Halo 3, ODST, wars and Reach are not on PC because they wanted people to buy the 360 for that reason.

The one thing which is great about the 360, is the exclusive games, Halo, Gears of war, and Fable, which is quite a great RPG.  Healthy for my orientation, Most PS3 Shooters are not as glorious as the 360 ones, most are quite indie for some reason which makes me giggle in my mind. AND! Surprisingly, i heard the Graphics on that Assassins Creed 2 game is better on 360 then PS3, which confuses me. Because i heard the PS3 had the stronger hardware?

Wii: If you have real life friends.
360: If you have online friends
PS3: If you have no friends.
