What would happen to my MWLL 10 FPS...
« on: October 29, 2010, 08:03:53 PM »
If my computer:

2x2.8 Gh Intel Pentium D
2x 1GB DDR1 400 Hz RAM
1G DDR3 Radeon 4670HD
ASRock 775Twin-HDTV motherboard

Just got an upgrade to

2x3.1 Gh Intel Pentium D (overclocked)
2,5GB DDR2 800 (667 used) Hz RAM
1G DDR3 Radeon 4670HD
ASRock 775Twin-HDTV motherboard ?

Also how do I force my motherboard (if possible) to use 100% of my RAM and graphics card?
..., but this is battletech, and sense is often not made.

what version of windows are you running?

I'm going to out on a limb and speculate a "not much" would change.  you'd probably get the game to load faster with the increase to ram and CPU

well the good thing with win 64 is that you'd be able to use all of that 2.5GB of ram. 32 bit system max at 2GB recognized with out some tweaks.

so... my FPS would increase by how much? 10 maybe 15?

I really don't know, your comp is right at the minimum specs line for crysis.

try this page http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10213/

They can evaluate your rig for the game.

That depends on which resolution your running the MOD on but I'd say it would not make much of a difference with the above upgrade :X

Unfortunately 2.5GB of ram doesn't really justify the cost of a 64-bit OS.  I currently run the mod on the following system at 25fps (average):

Low Spec
1920 x 1080

Windows XP 32
Tiger K8W Motherboard (latest firmware)
1x Opteron 280 (Italy) 2.4ghz
2 GB PNY PC3200 DDR (400mhz)
HIS ICEQ3 3850 AGP 8x

I'd like to add 2gb of ram, and go to Win7, but my board will only take ECC dual-channel in that configuration, which means 4 sticks of outdated ram at $50 each.  $200 to switch to 64-bit, or stay where I am on win-xp.  I strongly suggest trying xp-32 before buying more hardware.

So you tell me if I run MWLL on my Win XP instead of Win 7 crysis would run on my current spec???? And if I use CCC would it improve it??

Possible, no guarantees that you will find the frame-rates I put up with acceptable.  But xp is less of a hog than newer OS.

Consideration: I've never heard of 2.5 GB of ram working together.  In my experience, ram likes even numbers.

2.5 sounds even to me: 2x 256MB + 2x 1024MB. I booted up my old box to verify; it's actually got 2.5GB in I'm pretty sure exactly that config. This box has 3x1GB alongside 3x4GB (I think I got carried away.). They should just be using the best common timings and frequencies, provided they can operate in the same range and they are the same rough type. Though I do have the memory slots in corresponding channels using matching mem sticks, so I couldn't say if you could get away with completely mixing it up, with like 4 slots (double-channel) being: 1x256MB, 1x512MB, 1x1GB and maybe an empty slot just to screw with it.

2.5 is 1x GB + 1x 0.5 GB

If you have a good motherboard you can overclock your Pentium D without many problems.
Myself, I use a Pentium D 805 (which is a little under yours - 2.66 Ghz) and in my case the CPU is the biggest bottleneck for Crysis.
So I got 12 Fps for Crysis maxed out with stock CPU and over 19 FPS with 3.3 Ghz. (of course higher on lower specs)
! THIS IS NO RECOMMENDATION TO DESTROY YOUR CPU !
However, if you always turn it up a little and test stability you can be quite sure to avoid damage and it might get you some FPS needed to play it somewhat nicely.

That's true if you run dual/triple channel - than all RAM needs to be equal (best: 3 RAMs from same production series, or at least: same model with same frequency).
Otherwise there's no negative performance impact as long as they all have same frequency.

You just solved a problem on my bro's PC: He had 1x2GB DDR2 800 Hz RAM and 1x 512MB DDR2 (possibly) 667 Hz RAM and it wasn't functioning properly. A thank you has been given.

Also what would happen if I Make my ram like this: 2x 1BG DDR1 500Hz RAM and 2x 512MB DDR2 667 RAM.
