Assaults, What do you like?
« on: November 04, 2010, 10:49:45 PM »
NOw that more servers run TOS , I have been looking at a few assaults. Trouble is, there arent any I really like.
SUre the Hg atlas is fun, but all primary weaps are at 700m. The Cgauss mk2 I tried today is hard to handle.
Arrows feel like cheatin, and many brawlers tactically look like a nightmare in most situations.
So my question is, what assault do you like and how do you use it. ?

I rarely use Assualts, even in the late games I go for a Medium and transfer the spare bills to anyone who wants it :D

The Awesome Prime as it is possible to fire all of its weapons and not overheat.
And the Mauler C because it kills anything in front of it.

I don't like the Awesome as much as I used to, its harder to use now that you can have trouble arming things with the Awesome A.
Awesome B and C are trash, the Prime is ok but requires more discipline than it used to.
All the Atlases are pretty trashy, except the C, which really isnt that fun to pilot tbh.
Don't really like the MKII either.
Mauler is my assault of choice, combined arms warfare demands the Mauler Prime and it really shines, the Mauler C is good for massive punch when you need it and should only get better with the heat changes.
If I can get an AC5 Mauler, the Fafnir, and mechlab Atlas, I will rekindle my love of assaults again.
Most of the time I just use Heavies now.

I hardly ever use assaults, I prefer heavy mechs, tanks and medium mechs, even at the end of the game.

If I use assaults it is almost exclusively the Awesome A. Nice armor, good firepower, pinpoint accuaracy, there is really not much you could do wrong with that thing.  ;D

Atlas C "The Destroyer, Death bringer, God of War", is hands down my ride of choice.

Your best bet is to NOT be the first to fight, instead wade in once people have chosen targets, and use your superior firepower and staying power to lay waste to all those around you. It's not going to be easy at first, most people see an atlas and the "kill it" reflex triggers but with practice and engaging at the proper time you can really feel like a dominant force.

Awesome Prime and Mauler's  they just rock.  I can see how Atlases could be useful in organized game play.

Gunslinger. Bang bang and a face full of MRM. If you can't afford it, the Warhammer B is its little brother. Though, I wouldn't do much more than a hit and run if it's anything bigger than a Shadow Cat. If it was in the game, I would always be in a Fafnir.

I was going to post my Mauler C Rapetime Strategy here, but it got too huge so I decided to make a wiki page for it. It's my favorite variant in the game, in case my sig or the two dozen or so mentions of it that I've made around here. :P

leeko the gunsliger mounts 2 MRM 20s. Combined to MRM40. Kerensky save us if it carried that much firepower

Nice, no mentions of the MKII, my faith in humanity is restored, for now  ;D

Mauler just has three solid configs I like. 4 Flammers, 2 UAC20s, and 2 MRM 20s has the versatility for just about anything on the ground. The Prime is a great fire support mech and AA. Then the dual guass variant is just a bit nasty as long as you don't get mediums or heavies too close.

The AC20 AC10 Atlas is just mean. Not a big fan of the other variants. Awesome Prime is pretty mean if used with precision.

Oh geez typo. Thanks for that. "40 MRMs total" translated from thought to text as "MRM40s" and I didn't realize it. :-[

Also AC20s have a hard range of ~500m

It starts to drop down after 350m, good luck aiming those things at 500m. If whatever you're shooting moves at all you're just wasting ammo.

If in doubt use BEATSTICK that's my moto. Only in case I have enough money.

Since I rarely use IS assets I can only field the Mk II anyway, and since I don't like the UAC as it functions at the moment and Arrows are indeed more less cheating and I always field the Beatstick.

It's kind of difficult to get in range sometimes and the Mk II doesn't have to much armor but it still packs a punch and well I guess I don't have to say that it has an impressive firepower against almost everything aside tanks. So yeah that's my weapon of choice. ;)
