I'm trying the mouse+stick and so far I.. really like it! I had to draw up my own map because I can't remember what the fapp I'm doing with it right now.
It's awkward but at least it has a real payoff unlike using a stick for torso/aim - analog throttle and steering is a lot smoother and lets me make a lot more changes in a fight. So far it's negatively affecting me as I'm not used to it but with practice it'll get better.
Map.
Throttle is analog and needs to be held in place. This could be tiresome but my stick is very lightweight (CH Fighterstick). It makes changing speeds much easier. Steering is analog as well.
All my weapon fire scripts are set up to automatically select target under reticule. Not so useful all the time, but helpful in a closer fight where mechs can pop in and out of radar range frequently.
My palm rests over the MASC button so in order to MASC I just give the 'ol stick a firm squeeze and I'll come to the battle so fast and be all over the faces of my enemies (

).
The best part is with the CH control manager I was able to get around a bug with the game controls - you see, jumpjets only recognize the digital WASD (or whatever you have set up) for directions. So analog steering like this doesn't work with jumpjets at all - you only ever go up. I have a script so that the throttle is spitting out both digital and analog with the analog taking precedence during mech operations, and only during jumping (when analog doesn't matter) I can steer around with the stick! If jumping ever gets more powerful and precise this should be good fun. The hat is also free for POV once we get those controls too
