I was thinking about what I said and the last part about the clanner getting a cockpit full of dirt when he faceplants is kinda like a clanner way of saying good game lol.

I think the leg mechanics are pretty good for right now. I would like to see the whole gimp at one leg destroyed and fall at both. But under the current implementation it doesn't seem to be too much of a problem as it stands now (no pun intended). Would love to see the physics fixed with the mech clipping through the ground and such. I'm sure this is being looked at however.

I hate the idea of gimping at one leg... there is no argument as to why you would transfer damage at that point, and causing no effect on the damaged leg with further fire seems retarded.

As for the physics, yeah that will be looked into. No one has had the time yet, but there are some solutions. It will likely never be perfect, but it can certainly be better than it is now.

I figured it was one of those PITA bugs, so take your time. Right now its a minor inconvenience. Best to hop out of a legged mech anyways.

It'd be cool if they could fall slightly slower and maybe kick up a plume of dust when they hit the ground, to make it seem like a really huge, heavy object just hit the ground. Right now they feel like they kind of lack weight when they fall.

I guess that'd require a new animation/ effect though so it makes sense if it isn't exactly a priority right now.

terribly sorry, I wasn't quite responding to your question, I thought KitLightning had already answered your question quite well.

The Legs does not have a component besides them which the damage can or may be transfered to. The Legs have c. 3/4 of the Armor of the CT in general. Consult the WIKI if in doubt.

Leeko did a reasonable job of explanation and KitLightning expanded on the virtues of points. Thanks to all for the answers and commentary - and it's legs for dinner until the hit boxes are similar to how they are on torsos.
And a parting question if a mech has a front torso and a rear torso and both are protected by thier own independent separate panels (hit box) of armor, why can't legs have independent separate panels of armor on the front, side and rear? And if it's because that's just how it is and it can't be changed because it can't be changed then then that's how it is but it's hard to fathom that leg armor is equal to the construct of a sock and shooting that sock in the front delivers the damage in a 360 degree circle equally around the impact zone.
My parting statement may not have anything to do with it as it is a game and only the game physics manipulators would know the answer for sure but the books described technicians that welded / bolted armor plating on and our armored vehicles today have similar characteristics and they both are multiple panels of armor plating and the restrictions are due to weight; i.e.; the engine could only drive so much weight and thats what keeps armor values down = want bigger guns then drop some weight.                    How is it that legs got stuck with pantyhose?

It all comes from CBT, that's where we got our hitboxes and armor mechanics from. In CBT each hitbox has it's armor values assigned from overall mech armor tonnage, so if we are to divide leg armor in two hitboxes, armor value of each hitbot would be half of current leg armor as assigned leg armor should be divided between two hitboxes.

You want to stop getting legged? You have two options: start moving or assume hull-down position.

But if you just park yourself on a mountain with an arrow4 catapult - I will leg you in a heartbeat and never feel bad about it.

If you're getting legged at range, you're probably doing something wrong. But there's only so much to stop yourself getting legged in a brawl against a mech with LBX20s.

Personally I've always ripped those bunny ears off at range (love the smoking egg with legs running back to base look), but legging them never occurred to me, not as efficient a tactic perhaps (he can still fire those Arrows on the ground you know), but I see how a feller could derive some satisfaction from legging them... I like how you think.  8)

I actually had 'fun' getting legged the other day.

My Owens did a sweet somersault!!!

I think they improved the animations for it, and it even looks good from the cockpit.

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)
