Crash at... Random Times
« on: November 12, 2010, 06:04:35 PM »
Howdy folks!

I've done quite a bit of searching and have not been able to find any fix to my issues so far.  I'm only hoping that y'all with more experience in Crysis might be able to offer a hand.

It seems to be a common issue without a fix:  after several minutes in-game, I crash.  My first assumption was overheating, but my card is staying under 70*C throughout my play session.  Next I started searching and found that setting the Core Clock down to 600 might help; no such luck.  It also was potentially an audio issue, but I ruled this out being that it crashed when I hit "Apply" on the main menu.  No sound necessarily involved there.

There are several main points that will crash it:

1)  Several minutes into game play (or sometimes several hours; last night I played a good 2 hours Single Player before it crashed).

2)  Trying to change any settings in the main menu (IE, bindings/graphics/audio).  I can go through the menus fine, but when the red alert comes up to say "Are you sure?" I go ahead and click "Apply" and it kills my game.

3)  Trying to join MP.  The furthest I've gotten is to ACTUALLY loading a map (but never actually getting on the server).  I've crashed at several points before then: from the login prompt to the the server join attempt.

Following is my system (relevant stuff):

Windows 7 64x
AMD Athlon X2 3.0GHz 4-core
nVidia 465GTX (using most recent drivers; just to note, had the same problem with older drivers)
4GB DDR3 RAM

If anyone has any idea what my problem is (at least this problem... let's save the personal bashing for later ;) ), I would really appreciate it.

Much thanks,
HolmstN

This more looks like a stability issue with either your OS or in Crysis itself and not the MOD. Also the MOD is not a singleplayer.

Have you updated Crysis to Crysis Patch 1.2 and Crysis Hotfix 1.21

Oh yes I know it's not a mod problem.  But because of how mods work, the people at a mod's forums tend to be the most knowledgeable in fixing problems with the game a mod is based on ;)

64 bit Crysis, DX10.

Updated to 1.21, yes.

That I have not done.  So Crysis caches shaders to read from the docs?  That's... weird, haha.

Crashes did occur, however, the first time I'd ever played (Wednesday; I'm a late-bloomer in the Crysis field, haha).  However I also had played the Demo first, so that could be problematic.  When I'm home from work I'll see if deleting the cache helps, thanks.

You may want to try 32 bit crysis too - it's said some people have reduced their crash rate by trying to run game with different combinations of bits/DirectX.

Still no look using all of the above suggested methods.

The crashes are generally occurring as soon as the map is 'loaded' on a MP server (right after it reaches 100%).

Try DX9. We had someone else who crashed with W7 while running the 64bit version. Crashes ceased with DX9.

I did indeed try that.  I've tried all combinations:

DX9 with 64x
DX9 with 32x
DX10 with 32x
DX10 with 64x

Also deleted my cache.

Still nothing has helped :-\

Check your system event logs? In Vista Control Panel classic view, I would do this by Administrative Tools > Event Viewer . Maaaybe you'll find some sort of hint.

"Driver problem" is my guess :-\

Yeah that was my initial suspicion; I did update my drivers to 260.99 and nothing, so I'm not sure entirely.  I'll keep searching.

Thanks all so much for the suggestions, I do appreciate your willingness to help!  I guess Crysis is just being stubborn.

There have been a few occurances of various Anti-Virus packages reportedly being the cause of Crashes for quite a few people. I couldnt see any references to anything above about which AV you are using, but completely removing the AV software, un-installing it completely, is something else you could also try(just dont forget to put it back afterwards lol).

I know AVG has been reported to be one of the offenders, I had problems with that software and MWLL myself. There are numerous good AV packages available these days if the one you are currently using does end up being the problem.

I have the same problem as Holm, random chrashes.
After goin through the forum, i deleted the cache folder, after that i could play for about 15 min then i had a massive freeze up and since then, i can't even start crysis let alone mwll.

I guess i have to wait till 0.4 and play on wars, since warhead is running fine.

the crashes started after i installed warhead and wars.

Idea anyone?

Wars should not influence on your original install of Crysis. Does the issue occurs in Wars to?
