Thanx pipl!

my guess- oven did nothing- more like heatsink wasn't properly attached before until u reattached after ur barbecue

I was skeptical when I first heard about it. If above mentioned would be the problem it would crash in games, throw artifacts when under load and max-out cooler rpm (notoriously noisy, it would be heard). And bunch of other things.

And now for the grand finale of ugliness/manliness.
Thanks to the unfortunate accident when a driver showed hospitality towards deer/bambi and gave it warmth and safety under the hood of of a car. Cooling parts that sustained lighter damage were salvaged, including intercooler, by co-owner of the car and author of this post. Its punctured and few plastic parts are but it seems repairable. I also received a cooler for lga775 from a dead intel celeron d. It seems like a good, solid and thick cooling block capable of sustaining few drill holes. So the general idea is to use modified intercooler, cooler silicon pipings and diaphragm pump. Here are two of the components.

Results are satisfying: 9c over case ambient at idle factory cooler setting 68c at peek at full load and +-54 idle. With cooler at max it’s at 5c lover average so its ~49 idle and ~65. But in the end, it’s all dependant of ambient temperature and new cooler worked sufficiently at least. It is not pretty as it was too bothersome to remove excess foil after tests and i kinda like it this way: nvidia veteran knows whats gonna happen if it decides to die once again.

Anyway I heard that in us market this/or better card in similar broken-down condition can be found for 5$ and it runs mwll fine within the limits of its modest 320 ram.

To conclude: not pretty but well cooled.  ;D

HAHA I like it. Mine is a scrap piece also. It's got an AMD factory CPU cooler strapped to it with zip ties!!! I wasn't advocating you spend any money. Really... If I had a decent camera, I would take a pic. It's hilarious.

Alright, taking apart my 8800 GTS, got the heatsink off and et cetera, cleaning off the thermal paste with remover and so on

Is there an easy way to remove the paper on the back without risking damage to the card? (The little stickers with serial numbers and such on them)

I'm glad that that it worked for you! I would recommend riva tuner program to max out cooler rpm. Its noisy as hell but your card should live longer. According to NotSoCoolJ it should work for at least 6 months, although from information that i gathered it can be a two +-years (and pending) fix. Generally they should last.

hah! i've been keeping an eye out for a car radiator for just the same type of thing. awsomesauce!

That makes at least two people willing to potentially fry computers due to watter leaks.  :) Anyway that one is opel/vauxall/saturn (germany/uk/usa) intercooler for the turbocharger. On this model(s) it is mounted in front of radiator grill so in almost every accident they are the first victim so they are fairly easily to find. BUT intercooler normally cools AIR for turbocharger and although it should be hermetically sealed i don't know how its interior reacts to long long-term water exposure. Despite all of that, tried it and... HOLLY SHIT IT COOLS THE WATER PERFECTLY! If you cant find the intercooler try and find heat exchanger for car air condition system. I gather that one diaphragm pump wit capacity of 270l/h will be more than enough to give a stable water circulation. Thats the smallest one for small aquariums should fetch for -10$! Capacity of the intercooler is about 1.3liters of water. Heres the picture of grill layout/layers and the reason for its awesome cooling power.

Rest of dimensions for all people who are interested in gruesomely drowning their computers with handmade cooling solutions. All dimensions are in centimeters (1 inch = 2.54 cm). It was a speedy photos just for showing so don't mind the tailors-meter. With modifications it should fit nicely.

Enticing mix of free time, perversion and awesomeness.

I was testing/punishing the card to see its heat levels so she ended up in less "breathable" part of casing. And it was easier/more accessible to put her in that slot. Don't worry it is resting in 16x slot now/for now.  :)
