That being said balance could turn in it's head with the next 040 release

Hope so

Heavy tank vs Light mech - Mech wins

assault tank vs heavy -
the outcome is uncertain

This is talking from my experience

what do you mean by balance could turn in it's head means the games gonna be unbalanced and people wont play!?

Hah no the devs actually do a great job about balancing but always keep in mind some variants are just better suited for certain situations.  The hardcore fans will stick around no matter what, but we always see a population swell with a new release where there 3 or 4 servers full but then it tapers off to about 1 or 2 servers full.

Since this is a Beta, new assets need to go through some tweaks sometimes.

hows the balance now vs the new version?

We don't know yet, really.
What we do know is that the developers did do the following:
- reduce the heat by half for Autocannons
- UACs still have the jamming mechanism, while AC will no longer
- POSSIBLY do something about heat so that Novacats are not as godly
- add new assets
- add new variants
- Aero landing is improved
- Aero vs mech balance somehow tweaked (POSSIBLY)

How that will influence the game is impossible to know until people play the game.  Balancing games is the hardest thing to do as a game developer.  It's up to us playing the Betas to give our feedback on these boards to the developers so they can continue to work towards balance.  That is why I love Beta mods in general.  It brings me back to my youth and Counter-strike beta 5.2 back in 1999.   With each beta released at a random time, there were a ton of new goodies and fun surprises.

also will the original crysis version be obsoleet and dead?

0.4.0 will run on Crysis Wars AND Crysis. You should check Steam for deals on Crysis Wars when the mod comes out.  I have a feeling the Steam store will be selling right around the release of 0.4.0 (if they do their homework right).

Actually thats not correct, 0.4.0 will be available for both Wars and Vanilla Crysis. However wars will take over as the primary development path. The devs have stated they'll keep both versions supported, but I wonder at what point the development will diverge and the Vanilla version will no longer be supported...

In any case use the Wars version because thats going to be where the large majority of the playerbase will move to.

With the release of 4.0 which will port to wars/warhead I expect numbers to triple.

I think maybe that figure is a little overly optimistic.  I am looking forward to the ability to push user maps to clients in Wars, but I can't really envision a scenario where moving the mod to an expansion rather than an original, stand-alone game increases the potential player-base.

Yeah, that's kinda how it's been, but how many of those check back in and play when they see a new update?

I'm willing to bet there's more than a few who simply forget about the mod because of the long stretch between patches.  I'm all for the devs taking their time and squashing most of the bugs before each release, but perhaps a shorter, smaller release schedule with less content but greater frequency would be a better model in the long term.

Crysis Wars' MP is much more played than Crysis' MP due to the better MP networking, not to mention that more people can RUN Crysis Wars.

I already know a few people that will only try the mod when the Wars version comes out.

I'm pretty sure the Devs said, a while back, that smaller releases more 'frequently' was what they are planning.  0.4.0 is, and has been, the only 'big' update, that there has been a significant delay.  Well, except the ten year long post-MW4 drought, we should all be thankin' our luck stars this exists.

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

Ah, that's good to know.  :D
Though 0.3 was a pretty big update IIRC, I jumped on right at the 0.2 update I think and it was a good 4-5 month wait, almost as long as this one.

I'm not worried, I know it will be worth it, just so long as they don't release it during finals week...  :P

Actually I think they said they're going to start releasing updates on the schedule instead of releasing updates by content. In other words "We really want to put the Summoner in this patch, but it's either you wait another month or you get what we have now", they're going with the 'release now'. Releasing updates light on content will do a lot less damage than not releasing updates at all (*cough*).
