Alright. So, I'll start with a small introduction of myself.

I'm Ilya, the average 18 year old gamer born in Russia and living in Finland, currently attending a college. ( All there is to know about me! )

Now, I've been looking for a game like this for a while. I've had imagination about quite a similar kind of game with few major differences, but this game...err..mod? comes the closest to that imaginary game. Basically, the game would take a lot of feats from many games and combine them. And this game has many of these feats that I wanted.

The radar system is somewhat similar to track in Shadowbane. There is also quite the detail in damage-wise at least on Meches, which comes close to the detail that Men of War provides. There are huge maps that give a lot of space for combat, just like the old good BF 1942. BF 2 wasn't bad either, but I feel that BF 1942 is the best and only BF game that ever appealed me. There is also something new instead of plain old tanks and planes, so it takes a lot of imagination to make it all come true. Speaking of planes... this game actually finally has aerial combat. I've felt like previous mech titles not having really aerial combat apart from.. umm.. jetpacking?

There are more to name, but these are the major features that I like.

I'll just end it here and I'll probably post after a week a more detailed personal review about the game. We're also having a lan "festival" nearby here which I am attending. I'll be sure to introduce my friends with this mod and force them through brutal means to play it! (Or just manipulate elsewise)

Glad you guys are on this and even moreso better that you chose CryEngine. Though, one of things I never liked about it was that walls (the not-so-wooden ones) are not destructible. I don't think you guys would also have the time to create such physics, or even, if it is possible for you. But still, it's probably best engine currently for this game!

Now, I'll wait until someone makes something similar for Men of War, would be lovely. :]

Well make sure you have some kind of internet access... For some reason you need to log in to your gamespy account before you can join a LAN game...

I might be mistaken, but there ARE concrete walls and stone pillars that can be destroyed on sandblasted...  Not sure about other maps...

Also chainlink fences >_<

Yeah, I've read about that gamespy stuff.

But I'm afraid I can't find anymore that darn CD-key. I'm not sure however if there's any point into buying crysis instead of crysiswars, since next release supports that?

Anyway, is there any active VPN networks which I can join meanwhile? If I can get into one during the lan event, would be neat.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Good to see more players coming, especially if they're that enthusiastic. :) As you're a EU guy, I presume we would see each other on the battlefield soon. BTW, do you know that MWLL 0.4.0 is due to be released in a couple of weeks(I hope ;) )? Very soon you'll be having a lot of new shiny toys at your disposal. One more thing, do you have any previous connections with Battletech? Most of us here are either sim(Mechwarrior series that is) or tabletop fans(or both).

Glad you guys are on this and even moreso better that you chose CryEngine. Though, one of things I never liked about it was that walls (the not-so-wooden ones) are not destructible.  Yep, concrete walls and columns on Sandblasted, trees on Clearcut and Frostbite and, of course, Chain Link Fence is destructible. Buildings and other landscape features aren't destructible in MWLL(yet?), so that's pretty much all what you can destroy, aside from multi-ton walking war machinesm monstrous tanks, nimble hovercrafs, infantry with powered armor and jetpacks and a lots of combat aerospace assets that is. ;)

But I'm afraid I can't find anymore that darn CD-key. I'm not sure however if there's any point into buying crysis instead of crysiswars, since next release supports that?

As you already know, 0.3.X is a vanilla crysis mod. 0.4.0 would be released for both vanilla crysis and crysis wars, but most of the playerbase is planning to switch on wars asap. With that in mind, buying Crysis Maximum(containing both vanilla crysis and wars) is your best choice, if you can afford buying it.

Dunno about a VPN network, but i know that there are a few russian/euro clans out there that host their own servers with good latency.

But yeah, it might not be worth getting crysis only with the 040 coming out.  This game is also can be difficult to install if you're not tech savy

besure to read our wiki for an install guide

Thanks for a warm welcome!

I'm not actually familiar with Battletech overall. I haven't been too interested in previous MW titles for various reasons. I was mostly the RPG type gamer, until I really started to appreciate other kind of games thanks to Men of War.

And I'm quite aware of 0.4 indeed, it looks like a great releease in my eyes. Especially TC mode seems to be completely mindwhacking for my part.

Also, about being a tech savvy, it's hard to tell really. I have worked my way around hardware and software issues quite well. Luckily I have now 2 days to work it out before getting myself out on the battlefield. I've even fixed my CPU which had broken pins in a really extraordinary way, while only saw on the internet answers such as "only way is to buy a new one".

Any software issues that I cannot repair (I just had to reinstall crysis completely, a good start!) I will ask help here incase I can't find any previous posts about the issue.

Currently one that I was trying to figure out was server hosting in LAN. Every time I tried to create a server and host it, all I got was thrown back to the serverlist. I was running 1.3.2 0.3.2 ver. ( Latest I guess? )

And about Max edition, I'll see once I'm getting my check, what I can and what I can't afford. I guess max edition isn't that bad, but I was planning to go out with my girlfriend and burn all the money I can.

I'll just try to see what these VPN connections lead to which I have found around in the servers. I'm not fluent with typing Russian, so these servers aren't an option for me. Knowing 4 languages is really a pain. ^^

Oh wow I ran into trouble, messed too much with registry (as I hard deleted crysis out of no consequence). It started to tell me that the configuration is invalid or something like that (looks like MSI related issue).

Anyway, I had to look out for forums to find someone with ripped crysis version asking for help to install 1.1 update. Someone gave him the registry file to add it all, now I'm back on tracks! ^^

I really hate windows installer, tbh.

Welcome to the forums, beware of Toast and enjoy your stay. :)

I recommend Hamachi for a VPN, it's easy and fast to set up, and free.

Yuppers, already have Tunggle an Hamachi.

However, I'm not EXACTLY aware of how servers work there.

I'm currently connected to mechwarriorlivinglegends (maybe it was 1?) and I see at least two people online. How do I connect to any game at all? MW LAN doesn't show any servers at least and I can't also create one (whenever I try, I just get bumped back to the serverlist).

I'll try the other channels and see what happens there.

Alright, my friend gave me a key (phew!) so I can play Crysis version for now, let's see what happens at 0.4

I got into couple of games, played them for awhile and encountered few problems. Performance drops were expected, as my computer is no high-end gaming shark. I'll try to adjust now the graphics to see when I can get those at good levels.

Unfortunately, I encountered also latency problems around there, so I portforwarded the UDP port of Crysis. I'll see what happens now.

Can't commet much about the gameplay yet since playing while lagging a bit and having FPS dropdowns isn't exactly best way to play. :P

One of the biggest issues I encountered was however the IGN account thing. I believe my account level won't rise if I constantly create a new account to play with et cetera.

I use my IGN account "unique nickname" as the nick and the password to no avail. The account has been activated through email. It also seems that new accounts must be activated before I can log into them a second time. Meaning that I need to create yet another *sigh* email.

I'll keep it updated!

I recommend CCC, better graphics for less of an FPS cost than Crysis' default settings.

LOL

I knew about the pillars but I didn't know that those walls could be brought down. I was falling back with my SCat torn to ribbons and started taking defilade fire from an Awesome on my flank. I wasn't quite sure where he was but I hit the gas, burned my coolant, and rode the redline to dive behind the concrete walls. I was feeling pretty safe and let my mech finally sink off some of the unbearable heat... when the wall I was behind suddenly exploded.

I felt like an idiot. Managed to scamper off to safety and then return and bite the Awesome in the ass until it died :D

They're only 'better graphics' in the sense that they allow some DX9 features if you still aren't on DX10, and they tend to emphasize the bigger more noticeable stuff than the smaller. It's really designed specifically for medium-settings DX9 rigs.

Awesome! Thank you very much!

Anyhow, I've gotten now things to work for the better. Thanks to portforwarding, I lost all my latency issues at least on one of the server that I played in. ( It had around 14-20 people in it! )

I dropped down graphics to some extend, even my resolution, and generally it didn't work that bad anymore. There were SOME fps issues (especially when my vehicle/mech exploded, couldn't even use jetpack before my BA got shot down. But generally, much more fluent gameplay. ( And the map was that lava map, which I guess is kind of a map that eats down your graphics card and CPU I guess. )

Now, as for else, I must say, I was impressed. You guys managed to create from an impressive game actually an amazing game! The combat was fun, had some issues though with VTOL and it's handling, but I have actually a suggestion for VTOL which I'll post later on. Elsewise, community was amazingly helpful and fun, which I haven't seen for awhile in any games I've played recently. I guess that's also because "winning" isn't really as important as having fun, eg. no real rewards.

Also, I love the landscape variety with maps. There is green maps with some semi-jungle, snowy maps, lunar landscape maps, sand maps and not sure if these even covered it all. Though, I don't really like sandy maps myself to be honest :P Greenier the better!

I'll try out that CCC and see if I can get more juice out of it. Also, I'll definitely donate once I get my cash flow incoming, which is estimated to be in 2 months, if bank transfer is possible though. Seems like this game is truly worth of an investment!
