Please discuss our latest news update http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/2010-11/crysis-wars-and-mechwarrior-living-legends-linux-dedicated-server/ here.

Have you posed the need for this code in the Crytek Developer Forum?

Intel Core i7 @ 3.50GHz, AMD/ATI HD6990 LCS, Catalyst Control Center V12.3, 6GB Tri-Channel Dram, 640GB HD, 128GB SSD, DirectX 11,  Windows 7 Pro (64 bit), Corsair 1200 Watt Power Supply, Liquid Cooled GPU and CPU.

No, as we didn't get any support from Crytek as of now, we don't think that they will give us support in this particular case.
There comes a point where the talking must stop, and people have to do actual work.

Tell Crim, Kami, or Toth to get it for you, if you think it is that important.

That's not how that works. Just because a few of our devs work for CryTek does not mean that they are going to suddenly turn over source code to what is otherwise a multi-million-dollar-per-license engine to us - if they were going to do that, they'd probably have done it over a year ago. Besides that fact, it would still likely require work on the part of the original CryTek dev's to produce anything usable for us, and those devs are otherwise busy with their own game.

Given that I'm one of the highly qualified linux admins on the team with his own linux box colocated in an enterprise-class data center on a 100mbit dedicated direct internet connection, I'd love to be able to finally use that server to host games on instead of continuing to pay GameServers to host the CHHs servers, but even I have to resign myself that this is going to be delayed indefinitely.

So what is to discuss. Stay with Windows. This is a storm in a teacup.

This may sound like a joke, but have you tried Wine?

I happen to be the maintainer of some games in Wine. Crysis works pretty well, except graphics. I imagine the ded server without graphics might work even better. If you're interested, drop me a line and I'll see if I can help :)

Nope, I hadn't tried Wine for Crysis at all. The last attempts I had with Wine on my Ubuntu install were excessively problematic for me to ever consider trying CryEngine anything, and my dedi server at my old job is a head-/GUI-less Debian installation, and it's doubtful the box has enough power to run Wine and the game server. Sadly, since I no longer work there making off-the-cuff upgrades without anyone noticing isn't possible any more. Unfortunately for me, my copies of Crysis are also EA Digital Downloads, so just getting a working copy on the box at this point would be a neat trick in and of itself.

We do have a few people who have worked pretty diligently to get this working, and they're certainly as well qualified as I am, though I do not know the details on exactly what was done or what the holdup in the process. If, tho, you decide to try getting the Wars dedicated server to work in Wine and you have any luck, please let us know!

Wine is not an Emulator ;) It translates system calls. It usually runs as fast (in some cases even faster) than native applications.

I'll see what I can do once 0.4 is released.

No offense, but you obviously don't know much about servers. Please don't play this down, because it IS an issue.

Oh boy here we go another server guy carrying a torch for Unix and its myriad of manifestations.

I'm sure if we rise a stink in the Crysis Was forums we'll get a response from the Crysis Devs. Maybe a straight no or a "hot fix is in the works". Whats the worse, we don't get a response? I just need to know what thread to add to.
