Mech position invalid after forced shut down
« on: November 19, 2010, 09:15:24 PM »
Asset: Any mech (more visible with fast mech).
Issue: When a mech powers down due to overheat the mech staggers a few steps forward but is then position reset back those same steps.

Noticed in others a few times and today noticed it must have happened with my mech as well. I noticed since when my mech powered down due to overheat I noticed my enemy continuing to twist torso where I should have been going and even fired SSRMs in front of me (those should have been locked on me).

Repro steps:
1. Player 1 buys fast mech.
2. Player 2 takes overview position.
3. Player 1 overheats mech while in full sprint and lets it auto-shutdown
4. Player 2 observes player 1 slow down to a halt and then snap back about 1 full mech length.

Repro: ??/?? Seen it every now and then, but no count of how often this happens. Did not at time of writing have anyone to test it with.

Severity: 3/5 Affects gameplay but not exploitable unless this also happen to work with normal running shut down.

/Merf - Anyone else annoyed by this?

I think I saw this some times, but thought it would be lag related.

IIRC Player 2 is "out-of-sync" with the server. Player 2 has not syncronized Player 1 properly and so will experience the issue described.

When one man march at a different pace from the rest is the rest of the men out of synch with the man or is the man out of synch with the rest?
No confirmation that such is actually the case, but it does seem that way.

I would also consider it a good thing to look at if this happens to cause players to desynch. I can report having no trouble hitting those players right up until their forced shut down. This would imply they or me are not out of synch beforehand. Especially when weapons used include PPCs and large calibre ACs who are notoriously troublesome to get hit detection on when out of synch.

/Merf - I am normal. It is everyone else that is weird.
