Grand Theft Mech! WOOT
« on: November 29, 2010, 03:53:52 AM »
Okay, last night just a few moments before i CTD again, i had a guy in BA jump on top of my Catapult and i ejected so that i can PWN him with my man pack PPC in order to avoid what i think is called "getting crowned", only for they guy in BA to enter my Mech and drive off, thanking me through the chat for a new ride. As much as i was ticked off, it just dawned on me that you can actually hijack mechs in MWLL! I haven't seen anything like that since Mech Assault2.

Although as a BT and MW fan i think Mech Assault is an abomination, lol, i really did love jacking people's mechs MA2 on xbox when these games were in their prime.

I wanted to start doing this now on MWLL and thought it might be a good idea to see if any of you guys know of any good techniques on steeling other people's stuff on MWLL.  ;D ;D ;D

Any suggestions?

Did you power down your Mech before ejecting?

some people don't, if you hard eject, the cockpit is exposed and ripe for high jacking.  If you power then then get out, the cockpit stays locked.

I hate finding a nice big mech sitting out, ripe for the taking, then discovering that it is locked up.

I hope broken cockpits become more noticeable than just broken glass, some of the mechs with smaller cockpits are almost impossible to tell.

If you exit mech while it is powered up, you eject(and have fly high up due to ejection mechanism). Your cockpit armor is destroyed during ejection. If you exit your mech while it is powered down, you just use an exit hatch and your cockpit remains intact, thus preventing anybody but you entering it.

To steal empty enemy mech you need it's cockpit armor dropped to zero. It means that if enemy had ejected you can hop right in. Otherwise(if enemy pilot powered mech down and exited), you can use your BA weapons to destroy cockpit armor(just shoot the windshield until DH section is destroyed). After that, mech is yours to enter.

BTW, any friendly mech with it's pilot disconnected/CTDed could be entered even if it's cockpit is still intact. Keep that in mind if you see an empty friendly mech next time. Reconnected player would spawn with fresh load of cbills so he wouldn't be too upset by you taking his ride. Besides, empty mechs would despawn after some time or could just be destroyed by enemy team for free points so it's usually a good decision to take vacant friendly mech.

Very good piece of advice, not only do you keep your enemies from getting free points by finding that mech, you also get your hands on a mech that might still be far outside of your rank.

When playing dedicated BA and I stumble over a undamaged empty enemy mech that is especially good (like some Thanny or SCat), I break their cockpit open with my AC2, and then I steal it.
Same goes if I manage to surprise-jump a MadCat and get between its shoulders. Then I break his cockpit and kill the pilot, if he ejects I just take his mech and use it to kill him and if he powers down and leaves the mech I kill him and then take his mech.
Great fun to beat up the enemy team with their own machines.  ;D

The best thing is that you, especially at the end of the game, can find several Atlas mechs, you just get in, go to mech hangar to repair them and have fun by LRM Spam (happens very often on Marches) You just should not enter direct battle with it^^

But don't expect to find a empty Madcat MKII, I have never seen one of them empty...

I think if you kill a BA who has not hard ejected, his former Mech unlocks.  Not positive on this, but I'm pretty sure I've done it before.

I love playing BA, especially when someone decides to make eject for a BA duel.  It's 50/50 if I'm gonna win it, but when I do, stealing their Mech is the ultimate reward.  8)

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

I once "stole" an awesome that stood behind the enemy's main force on sandblasted. Should have seen the faces on these atlasses as 4 ppcs rocked their backs :D. It is a great feature, I love it.

With that mpPPC in your hand you could have easily given a shot to the cockpit and killed the mech thief and took your mech back

o.O  I didn't even think about doing that.  I just assumed if you just blew off the head armor it would still stay locked!  Gonna have to try this out!

It does still say "locked" IIRC, but you can enter it just fine...  ;D

I've once jumped a enemy Beatstick and I rode him onto the battlefield, while cutting his head and CT open with my AC2. Shortly before he reached the rear of his frontlines he disconnected (ragequitted?), and I kept working on his now empty cockpit. A few seconds after my team attacked it broke open, I hijacked the Kitty and raped the enemy team from behind with their own MKII. They didn't even notice until I had blown 2 or 3 of them up.

I think that BA was me  :D. If someone bails from their mech to kill me, I either blast them and steal it or just steal it and run away laughing.

I remember last time Gamespy was down, me and Freeborn Toad were testing blocking packets to Gamespy.

Everybody but us two are suffering disconnects every couple minutes, and the battlefield is littered with fully green Mech's with no pilot, ripe for the picking!
I had a lineup of 5 of them and was switching cockpits and shooting at people for the lulz.
Every time someone would come over to fight, they would usually get disconnected and add to my collection.  :D

EDIT:
Should have seen the faces on these atlasses as 4 ppcs rocked their backs :D.

Did it look like this?

I'll be doing that next time now that i know i can do that. Is the mpPPC the best BA weapon to destroy cockpits or the Micro heavy laser?
