Why I'm quitting the beta till .40
« on: December 07, 2010, 07:16:12 AM »
Simple: People who know better still insist on spawning Novacats and causing client crashes. I won't name names but seriously, that's lame as hell and just ruins the game.

Well hopefully it won't be to long till you can play again, but realize that lots of people (including myself) never get Ncat crashes.
I'm not a fan of Ncats myself, but if a Ncat doesn't crash you go ahead and take it.
Too bad for you computer wise, but you cant' really play other people.

Well, I had a blast the other night when an Ncat crashed me, but it didn't close the game.  I just kept firing at the thing until it died.
Thanks for the view.

Well, you are lucky when you can at least name the reason for your crashes......
I realy hope 0.4 will run more stable on my PC.

To each their own, but anyone browsing the forums should know Nova Cats make people crash.
I find it a weird logic then to still use them knowing it will crash others computers. It is a bit like asking to get fewer people to play with. Not to mention constantly having to question the reason when (yes when. You can not fail in a nova cat...) things go well.

I would have been all for an hotfix that removed the Nova Cat right after the cause of the crashes where established (making any extra reports on the issue more or less useless).

/Merf - Tend to try and avoid even engaging Nova Cats just because of the crash risk

Since upgrading I've concluded that 90% of MWLL crashes, to include the CatCrash, are due to hardware.

Okay not much to base that on, but upgrading to Win7 and overhauling every part in the computer and I've never crashed since.

I've been getting random crashes lately, not sure if they are Novacat related or not.  The worst ones have been a Black Screen type of crash where I have to reboot.

I'm pretty sure it is not hardware related.  Here are my PC specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
MSI 790FX-GD70 Motherboard
OCZ AMD Black Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
GIGABYTE GV-R577SO-1GD Radeon HD 5770 1GB
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I crash a lot, but it is not NC related.
Is there a way for a server owner to change the pricing of an individual mech? This way server owners could prevent players from purchasing the Crashcat.

I will keep this in mind and not buy them. Until the other team of course sees it fit to spam NovaCats all over the place.

I also never had a problem with the Ncat. My game crashes in DX10 almost every half and hour back to desktop as well as on each disconnect or map change it did when I had my 4850 and also with my new 6870 so I doubt it is a hardware issue. But I just assume that the Wars port will fix a lot of the crashes simply because some of them are not MWLL related but simply Crysis imperfections.

Just a side note.  I know that some crashes are caused, or contributed to, by various drivers so I did a little looking around.  I found that for us ATi jockeys Catalyst 10.11 (this is the most current driver as of 11/17/2010) has a few know issues as does 10.10, however I did find a 10.10e (11/17/2010 update) hotfix on the AMD driversite and saw some positive feed back online.  I installed the hotfix and jumped on a server this morning and it looks like proformance has improved and no crashes at this time.

For good measure I also cleaned my registry to be sure no dead reg values were hanging around gumming up the works...

I was a consistent crashee from NC model.  Upgraded cpu/gpu/win7x64 - pretty smooth since then except when certain servers are running more slots than they should <..cough..why are foreign servers smoother than US for US players ..cough... but thank you for putting a server up regardless!>

Still get a crash from time to time, and I'm certain at some of those are NC-related, but I did not and would never put some moratorium on what assets people use unless the devs took it out.  First of all, pub matches are not for blood or money; and second, it's not like I'm doing anything so important I can't rejoin and have fun (even if rank loss).

Let the devs do their thing and be grateful for what we have - and what we get when it gets here SoonTM.

I don't know about Novacats. They never crash me really. One time I crashed and it was certainly from a Nova that got legged right in front of me by a LT shell. Other than that. I always crash in or around a huit prime when it is firing. It is something to do with my sound card I suspect. I might try to get a new one soon.

It almost sounds like some of you are crashing for reasons other then then the novacat, maybe some of you need to clear your shader cache? Its worth a shot if it makes the game crash less for you, worse case scenario you just have you just have to wait a couple minutes for the visuals to go back to normal or put your old cache folder back into the shader folder and you will be fine.

Go to documents/my games/Crysis/shaders and then move the folder called Cache somewhere else or delete it. For the first few minutes you play after deleting the shader cache folder the game will look weird but if you wait 5 or so minutes it will all go back to normal.

Edited for clarification.
