Lasers have recoil compensators.
« on: December 21, 2010, 07:52:44 PM »
So, i was looking at an old blueprint for the summoner and noticed something interesting.

The ER Medium laser has a... recoil compensator.

Reading through tech manual or sarna, im sure somewhere it mentioned that lasers, funnily enough, didnt produce recoil and therefore lasers didnt have recoil compensators.

I know this is probably a moot point, rule of cool and inconsistancies in the fluff and all that.

However, for those who want to see an updated cross section, here you guys go.

*Edit* Unless the recoil compensator is specifically for the arm itself, which would make greater sense, in case you installed autocannons in the pods.

New idea- would I be able to use an external hard drive to add RAM and/or improve gigahertz?

The recoil compensator is for the whole Omni-pod. You can mount more than just lasers in those arms, yknow ;)

don't bother sending me PMs, I probably won't be reading them in time.

I always hated the spindly arms on the clan mechs.  they just look so "unarmored" to me

But what about the TurboLasers from StarWars. They would need some recoil compensators. Must be the heavy light they emit....

Star wars' turbolasers are not exactly "lasers", but rather an umbrella term for all heavy, usually capital ship-mounted, energy cannons. A lot of them are particle beam weapons(not unlike battletech PPCs) so having a recoil compensator is not unusual for them.
