I agree on those points Blu, having a different system from basic to advanced training seems like a must.

And that is my problem with teaching too, when people don't ask specific questions and just want to "learn" I end up just throwing an unwieldy hodgepodge of tactics and strategies.

Also the thing that has always bothered me is: when does it cease being a classroom and begin to be an apprenticeship?
At higher levels of tactics each "vet" is going to have their own style and will only really be able to help in that style.
Just as a random example, some weapons are nonos to me on assaults mechs when you want to take out lightmechs. Others might disagree on which ones are better than others and if the student wants to make a certain style work he will have to find someone who shares that style.

I know most advice I see given to new players is counter to what I consider a good end goal. But personally my end goal is lots of initiative and almost reckless impetuosity in gaining ground. So even at early stages it seems the curriculum could really change depending on who is teaching. So how much should we try and give uniformity to it?

Here is an example of few things we did:

Talking about damage, had ghost hop in a mech and demonstrated how shooting through a damaged torso caused the multiplied damage to the ct

Talking about heat and chain fire vs group fire, had ghost grab a nova c to illustrate heat damage above red line; the extreme side of spiked heat vs slower gen of disciplined chain fire

Had him engage in mirror mech low damage on my part circle fighting, while fighting explaining using watch and do method spreading damage while waiting for weapon cycles.

Think on these lines after the initial session when doing a specialized training.

Last suggestion:

Two surveys. The first to give the trainer The learners expectations. The second the learner will submit this so, the trainers know what worked, what didn't and what the learner wishes to focus on. These surveys will be needed to consistently improve the training methods and the learners training experience.

This is something I believe will work great. Won't know until its put into action, but it seems to work for a lot of things, so its expected to here.

I'll gladly donate some time to teaching people how to rule the skies, as well as anything else needed. I can do a bit of everything. I'm in EST

So fellow trainers, with the Unit poster drive going I was thinking that while Sandhurst isn't a "unit" it would be nice if we had a poster letting people know we exist and should go to the forums to check us out.

Any arty folks have any ideas?

Can I be put under "advanced training"?

I don't think I can stomach teaching basics (hope that didn't sound 1337 >_>)

There are plenty more sociable vets that have the patience for that.

I'm more of the sargent who gives you a molotov and a rifle with three rounds and says "follow me, puke."

"This isn't anything like training!"  :-X
