A Battletech/Mechwarrior based RTS?
« on: December 24, 2010, 07:03:22 PM »
Hey for some strange reason i've been getting cravings to play RTS games this month. I was checking out different ones and eventually got StarCraft II and am now playing it. But i could of swore back in the windows 98 days that i remember playing some kind of Battletech/MechWarrior RTS. I can't remember what it was. All i remember was that i was not playing the full version of it but a demo. I also specifically remember commanding a whole lance of Battlemechs, one of which was a Bushwacker(which is why i think it's a BT related game).

Anybody remember what that was? Can i run it on Vista?

both are free now, I'm pretty sure you can get it running on vista but there might be some issues you'll need to work around.

Get MC1. 2 was awful.

I feel free to disagree.

In my opininon MC1 was a great game. (for CBT fans)
MC2 was the better PC game but too much to whine about the lore and the gamemechanics for CBT fans.

Edit: MC2 is for free since several years, you can download it directly at Microsoft.

MC1's mechanics were as far away from CBT as it gets and it still was a great game.
It made you WORK for your achievements.
Want to capture a mech? Go through HELL to get it!
Beat a mission? STRATEGY my dear friend! A rarity in modern "strategy" games.

MC2: herp derp shoot mech insert new pilot. And it's ready to go. Even in the same mission. The missions were plain and boring. It lacked the beautiful sprite graphics MC1 had. It lacks gameplay depth. It has retarded gameplay mechanics. It had far less attention to detail.

Oh. And MC1 had a KICKASS intro.

edit: No Ragor, it's not free. They released the MC2 source code (which depends on some obscure things, which is why nobody ever did anything cool with it). That download is useless for players. It lacks all the game data, it's just the sources.
MC1 and MC2 can be downloaded from mechcommander.org, but the legal status of these downloads is not clear. The guys behind the site consider it abandonware, and I do too. But it has never been released for "free" officially.

edit2: removed misinterpretation

This was too much!

You are an asshole. Fact.

I wrote 'in my opinion'. What does that mean?!?!? That this is my opinion, even you ignorant shithead can't tell me what my opinion is since it is subjective.

You XXXXX tell me I insulted you because I said MC1 was closer to CBT than MC2.

Fine.

But the game I prefer is retarded?!??! Missions are plain and boring?! Thx.

Damn it and annoy someone else. Get adult.  Die. Whatever.

Your XXXXXXX opinion is not the final solution, the word of god.

Always the same BS with you XXXX and your superior opinion.

Edit: Deleted some 'bad' words.

It was an honest mistake, HAARP gets really really defensive when he detects the slightest whiff of "herp derp keep CBT dice retardation out of mechwarrior" which he misinterpreted your post as. But still, both of you,

>_>
<_<

srly iz it overz?

If you do get the MC1 iso from mechcommander.org and you have a 64bit system, the installer probably won't work since it's a 16bit version.  BUT you can just copy the contents of the iso (after mounting of course) into any folder on your HD and just run the MCX.exe to run the game.  Just went through the 1st 3 missions and it worked fine.

As for MC2, did any one play the wolfman expak?  hear it was really a challenging and was what MC2 should have been.

MC 2 does get a little boring and is pretty easy (played 4-6 missions I think)

I might try #1 out if it works on my comp

Plenty of mods for this. I know there's a few that'll tickle your pink.

There was a Battletech mod for Spring, but afaik it never got past an early alpha.

There also was a C&C Generals mod called "The Capellan Solution". It's abandonded by now, but playable.

And then there's this in development:
