CJW Funbox is now running a MWLL dedicated server on top of Debian Linux. So far there aren't any problems!
don't bother sending me PMs, I probably won't be reading them in time.

Got our Oldgamers server to run on wine 1.2.1 on Gentoo 2.6.28-vs2.3.0.36.4 but with X-Desktop.

Unfortunately Rconnect seems not to work with this wine version. Next I will try wine 1.3.11.

What are the real limits for a 32 player server? Are they more connection or CPU based ?

Stability issues get bigger, the more slots your server has. This is a crysis issue.
Also it's not the server that suffers from performance problams usually, its the clients. Most clients can't take more then 30 players.
There comes a point where the talking must stop, and people have to do actual work.

Yup, try a more recent Wine for Rcon.

How much disk space do you need to have on your Linux server? (approx)

Since Linux usually doesn't need that much, most providers offer very limited storage space (around 10Gb or even less). Is that nearly enough?

Our server uses about 11GB, of which 9 are Crysis+MWLL itself. You should be able to get away with 12GB, but I'd recommend 16.

If you use a really slim distro 10GB might be enough. Note: I'm talking about Gibibytes.

You might find this application interesting for managing your remote crysis server shell.

HAARP, not sure if you're familiar with CentOS 5.5, but I'm trying to get the latest version of Wine on this using yum, and after adding the RPMForge repo to my yum repo list, I can only get Wine version 1.2.1-1.el5.rf.

Is this version enough for what I need?

@The_Yanster:
Just test. If you encounter problems, just try to build a more recent version.

That's what I'm doing now... but compiling from source is not that easy because of all the dependencies...

Now I'm just trying to find the root directory for the wine I just installed (where the drives are)... I'm new to wine, never used it...

EDIT: Found it! Had to use winecfg to set it up... Now I'm downloading XManager to see if I can redirect X11 output to my desktop and fine tune it using the GUI...

I'm currently in the process of setting up a server with free NX (a compressed layer over X with persistent session support). That might also be a solution for you guys.

Why do people insist on installing an X server and communicating with it remotely? rcon works just fine.
Yanster, packages should pull in all the dependencies. I don't know about CentOS, but if it also pulls in build dependencies, building the newest Wine should be a cakewalk.
Extract, ./configure, make depend, make -j4

I'm still learning linux, so maybe I did it wrong, but I never knew how to build from source and automatically build dependencies at the same time...

1. I added the proper RPMForge repository to my yum repo list
2. I installed wine using yum install wine
3. I installed Xvfb using yum install Xvfb
4. I ran winecfg to create Wine's directory structure
5. I downloaded and created xvfb-run (which is actually a Shell script that doesn't come with the rpm by default on CentOS 5.5)
6. I can this simple test: xvfb-run -s "-screen 0 800x600x24" wine /root/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/cmd.exe /c echo test > /test.txt
7. I checked /test.txt and there it was... so I know it's working!

Now I only have 4Gb on my VPS, so I have to increase it and test CrysisWars (after adding vcrun2005)
