Australian players: your attention please!
« on: December 29, 2010, 03:10:58 AM »
This is basically the same thread that I made a month or two ago but what with 0.4.0 actually being out I think it needs saying again.

As you may or may not know, the Australian servers are different from pretty much all the other MWLL servers in that they're neither owned nor run by MWLL fans, but rather by local gaming ISPs that do it out of the goodness of their hearts and possibly the hope that we might think that they're pretty cool and subscribe to their service. This means that the servers don't get updated just because a new release appears, because the admins don't check the MWLL site.

Usually it's just a matter of shooting someone a PM on the appropriate forums and the servers get updated, but 0.4.0 gives us a few more options than usual, hence this thread.

I reckon we want at least one Wars server running TC, so I've created a thread over at games.on.net requesting that the current internode MWLL server be updated to that game/ gamemode combination. If you'd like to see a server like that, you might want to head on over here and just make a quick post letting them know that you're keen to have the server updated to this. Even if you don't have an account there it might be worth making one to post, just so they can see that we've got a few active players and it'll be worth their time updating.

If you want some other combination, such as TC on regular Crysis or TSA on Wars, 3FL have also been running two servers, (though they've been down for a while now) so your best bet is probably to head on over to their forums and create a thread asking politely if they'd mind updating to whatever it is you want. Afterwards you might want to post a link here so interested players can post in the thread and let the admins know that they'd like to see a server running that game/ gamemode combination.

Thanks for reading and I'll see you all ingame!  :)

Oh you're right. It seems I got gamearena and games.on.net mixed up, probably because internode used to run an Australian server in the past. Still it's a positive response.

Now I'm wondering if I should ask the actual gamearena guys to update to wars or just stick with vanilla. Anyone else have an opinion on this? I won't do anything for now since it looks like we might end up with a new internode server as well as the gamearena server and if they're both running Wars/ TC one just won't get used.

Well there isn't one, cause I got confused and posted it at GoN instead  :P

But there's an old thread here where someone asked if the server could be updated to 0.3.2 and an admin told him to just use the support system. So I guess if someone wanted they could do that and ask for the server to be updated to Wars. I haven't because GoN suggested that we might get a Wars server and there isn't really any need for two, but that's not exactly confirmed so maybe asking Gamearena isn't a bad idea.

Bumping because 3FL has put a Wars server running TC up. If you live in Australia, NZ or South East Asia, get into it!

Thanks, appreciate the AU servers. I just downloaded MWLL 2 days ago, happy to see a server with low ping :)
I think it is a good idea to have them update to Wars since vanilla won't get any future updates. Everyone will have to move to Wars eventually. Having 2 servers gives options to people, if they don't like the game type or map, they can move. Or if one crashes or is full.

Hmm wasn't aware that GameArena had a MWLL server going... looking at server spy on their site seems to list vanilla Wars maps...

Anyway... 3FL MWLL #2 is up and good to go =) On some very nice servers too =D Server details/spy at http://www.3fl.net.au

@Caedus: thanks for the server! Gamearena does indeed run a server but it's for vanilla Crysis and its running the old 0.3.2 build so it's not getting any use. I'm pretty sure somebody requested that it be updated to 0.4.x Wars so people would actually play on it, but they didn't get any response.

@Tibus: it'd be good if Gamearena updates I guess, but to be honest while we've almost filled servers with Oceania players in the past, we've never gotten to the point where we've needed more than one and if we had more one usually sat unused. The 3FL guys have just done us a favour (again!) so I personally won't be bothering Gamearena unless popularity in our region really takes off and we actually need 2 or more.

One of the 3FLs is now updated to wars, however it appears the gamemode is borked.

TC isn't working correctly, both teams start with 0 tickets and it just basically plays out like TSA with capturable bases.
Also if TC mode is correctly set up it may pay to increase the round time to 100min+ to ensure that the game ends only when the tickets run out.

I pointed it out and they fixed it  :)

Also I asked about increasing the time limit.

BTW: if you see a guy called Wob ingame, remember to say thank you cause he's the one who organized the server!

TLL is now booting up a new GameServers.com server in Sydney for you. We figured we have to open our hearts to those longing for a server on their continent :D Anyhow, the mod is still being installed by the hoster but expect

(TLL) Matchbox #2 AU-SYD 16 players, public

to come up in the next 24 hours.

Hopefully more will follow!
