Summoner: ...what
« on: December 29, 2010, 08:49:20 AM »
First off: I'm really sorry to whoever modeled it. This is in no way intended as an insult! It merely reflects my own opinion on the matter.

Having said that: I really, really dislike the Summoner in MWLL. It doesn't look like the real deal:

meh, better pic to follow once Pytak gets 0.4 :D

Is it the texture? Maybe. But the proportions don't seem right either. It doesn't have that aggressive well-proportioned look to it :/
The legs appear too close together, are way too thin and lack the ankle of doom (same for Hellbringer). Why is the energy arm not the basic Omnipod that the other Omnis use but something slightly different? What's up with that shovel-rail of a ballistic arm? It's supposed to be a funny looking stump of LBX goodness, but what we have does look extremely strange.

Its torso elevation is severely limited. Yeah, yeah, it's a "chassis" limitation you say. But this makes the Summoner useless up close. Lights and many mediums just hug its crotch and can't be hit at all...
The armament is taken straight out of CBT. While I would normally appreciate that, it doesn't work. The LRMs are hard to use without the torso elevation. And really, mixed designs don't work well in general in MWLL. Why not replace the LBX with a 20?

Just wait until Amarus plays this...;D x(

I'll very tentatively say this about the loadouts - what I saw just didn't attract me in the slightest. Some of them seemed like they would be more at home on a medium than a heavy. The Prime might work if the LBX and LRM were both -20s...

Haven't used the Summoner yet though, I will eventually and make up my mind. But when I was capable of affording it, there were better options.

What's the armor like on it? Anyone know?

The summoner was having a few texture and normal map issues that we couldnt hammer out in time. Considering its not a game breaking bug we decided to let you play with it anyways. It is still being worked on and will be fixed soon enough. As for the varients, they are a bit low on firepower but the thor can really take a beating. It helps keep its cost down.

P.S. The WHOLE mod is WIP, you dont need to make a thread about an asset that is obviously not 100%. Just chill out and be glad you have a new mech to play with at all....

EDIT: Fixed! HAHA i wish we had the sunder :( FAFNIR FIRST!!!

So, textures aside, would the energy weapon arm(the right one) be fixed?

Never. And you know it. :) ;)

Variants are fine, it's just that... I don't know. It could be bit more agile, little bit, but have good boost of armor. This vs Warhammer Prime == Summoner critically damaged on all torso components, Warhammer barely yellow. Even if encounter begins at 200 meters and Thor got better skilled pilot.
Right now if feels like Light Mech with big profile and little better armor... it could use much better armor to compensate the size, and feel like a heavy Mech with good survivability. But that's just my personal POV.

I also wouldn't mind one variant with PPC, 3MHL(or 1MHL+2SHL) and SRM6 or something about that - more suitable for brawls than current Prime.

::)

What needs to be fixed about it exactly?

The legs are using the loki legs, as was planned from the beginning. The mechs are ALWAYS our own modeling of them, not straight out of the line art. Its rather disappointing to see that no one is commenting on the fact, that the model itself is one of the best looking ones we have put out. Instead the focus is immediately on what people don't like.

Could someone upload a screenshot of the Summoner? I'm downloading Wars right now and Steam is taking its sweet time.

Summoner Prime is pretty fun, and reasonably cheap. I decided to try the lbx10 on a teammate at close range (they do more damage) and it did something like 50-60% of an Osiris' side torso. Lbx10 suddenly got good :D

Why does this need to be *fixed* exactly?
