Flight Physics and MWLL
« on: November 28, 2007, 08:26:51 PM »
Gents,

Since you have the SDK (not sure if that even matters to my question but).. is jet-type flight capable in the engine?

I am sorely disappointed with the Flight charactoristics that are displayed in crysis (and yes i understand this is thier first time using flight models ) but i am hoping that you will be able to improve upon them much in the way that Desert Combat improved and even tweaked the BF42 engine for thier flight controls.

I also want to be clear that I am not looking for LOMAC/ Flight Sim X quality, just something that gives a better semblence of flight then what is currently in the game.

thanks!

With the inclusion of the jets flying around and the VTOLs (yes, they handle horribly) I would assume that regular fixed-wing aircraft are available.

Yes it is possible and yes we hate the way crysis handles flying as well.   We will be tweaking the flight charachteristics of both jet aircraft and vtols.

I have actually tasked one of our Programmers to specifically work on flight characteristics. He is currently in the process of writing from scratch some new physics characteristics (such as lift) that will give a far more exciting flying experience. The way the vtols and choppers are currently programmed in Crysis makes it very difficult to create a simple jet thus we figured why work on something no one likes anyways?!

Keeper will keep you updated on his progress as he works more and more on the air vehicles

Oh if I TRIED I could make it worse  :D

But rest assured that I love to pilot all things, and I'll try to be making the most (reasonably) realistic flight physics I can.

lol i doubt you could make it worse... :)  as it stands now it is like a flying .. nay floating stubbornly in the air brick Sh*&house.. best of luck Keeper!

Have fun, making it much better than it is right now, Keeper... ;D

I had to take a hiatus from Crysis for a bit so I just now got to the VTOL level.  Wow...DDM_ChaosGryphon nailed it spot on.  Floating brick was definitely the feeling.

Yeah i don't like the vtol one bit. the chopper is OK but i REALLY like the way the bf2 choppers and planes controlled it was simple but complex enough so that you could do some pretty amazing maneuveurs.

Agreed any of the choppers in bf2 were nice and fun to fly.
