MWLL Launcher and in game performance.
« on: January 02, 2011, 01:31:54 AM »
Hi all,

Simple but important poll for you all. This is especially important for those users who are having massive framerate problems on DeathValley and Kagoshima.

If you don't currently force DX9 and have problems on those maps, please try this ASAP. I know personally I was having a hell of a time running the mod decently on those maps on Wars, until I remember I wasn't forcing DX9.

If this is part of the problem, we may force DX9 by default in the launcher.

Needs a "I don't select force DX9 and turn off 64-bit" option.

I don't have any FPS issues on the maps with these settings.

So, what you would like me to do is turn off DX10, and try to play those maps and report if I have better performance?

Hm, DX10 / 64bit without issues.
Also, consider your hardware. My 512MB of VRAM is highly limiting on those two maps even with DX10/x64. profile 6 tells me I'm Renderer:FlushingHardware, so it sounds like I'm constantly refreshing my texture cache. Death Valley's a bigger problem for me than Kagoshima.

For a lot of people DX10 will always be poorer performance. In fact it more or less should be. If you run the CCC warhead pack, you will likely have better performance and visuals with DX9 than you will on DX10.

If you are having those texture flushes that people are reporting and are running DX10, PLEASE PLEASE force DX9 and see if it helps. It makes a night and day difference for me. My framerate is not always great (and we are going to investigate one issue we are seeing), but at least its consistent without the huge pauses that I'm seeing in dx10.

I can't comment on the difference between DX9 and 10, but I force DX9 and have more or less completely stable framerates all the time. Sometimes the game hangs for a second, but I suspect that's lag related.

My specs

1gig 8800GT

E8400 3ghz

6gig DDR2

running Win7

Crysis wars 64 bit.

Oh yeah I'm also running CCC with the second highest config I think.

Everyone should try CCC at least once. Most people seem to see either an improvement to framerates or visuals. I'm pretty sure both have improved for me. Some people don't like it but I think they're the minority.

I'm running wars 64bit in dx9 with CCC and it feels snappier than dx10

That was disgusting. Game still laggy as hell, but now it's Renderer:Mesh VUpdateBuffer taking up all the cycles. Textures at all high, 1600x900 no AA, E8400 @ 4GHz, 4GB DDR2 @ 1100, HD4850 512MB @ Stock.

i usually force DX9, because my 4870x2 can't handle DX10 anyway.
i switch between force 64 and no 64 from time to time, to see if i get a difference . .
so far, no difference in either frames or crashing behaviour.

Ok, so I ran DX9 and surprisingly enough my fps was a whole lot lower on Kagoshima. I ran a flamer harasser too, just to really put the performance to the test, and it made usual 40 to 50 fps I get on my 5970 drop down to an unresponsive 18 or so fps. I kept running into everything cause of the lag.

I have a pentium i5 2.4 ghz, 4gig ram, and 1gig radeon 5650, and im on 64 bit windows 7.  I usually get 30-40 fps on kagoshima in dx10.  Just tried forcing dx9, and my fps dropped to 10-20.
