Game hints
« on: January 03, 2011, 02:14:27 PM »
I like the basic idea of hints in the loading screen. Especially for newcomers.
But there seem to be only a few of them. We can use this thread to collect more hints.
The following topics should be mentioned:
- Weapon characteristics; missiles, ballistic and energy based
- Heat management
- Vehicle handling: torso twisting, speed, jump jets, etc.
- Tactics
- Equipement description, MASC, ECM etc.
- Gamemode explanation

And the used in the description should not be the standard keys, but the ones actually used in the actionmap. Atm. people with different key mappings will get false advices ;)

Here are some examples. Please feel free to correct them and/or add other ones.

Use jumpjets [jump_jet_key] to jump over obstacles or to evade incoming missiles.

The amount of heatsinks determine the speed at which heat generated by weapons is dissipated.

Try to stick together in groups and engage single targets, focusing fire on the target which poses the greatest threat.

In Terrain Control (TC) mode both teams need to capture bases to succeed. Each team can only spawn as many assets as they have team tickets. Those tickets diminish over time depending on the amount of captured bases and every time a player dies.
A base is captured by standing in the capture zone while no enemies are present.

MASC enables a mech to go faster than its normal top speed but it produces extra heat. Enable MASC by pressing [turbo_key].

Active radar detects other active radar units at 1000m. By switching to passive radar with [radar_key] you reduce the detection range to 300m.

ECM reduces the radar detection range by 500m. GECM only affects the unit using it, while AECM will hide all units within a 300m radius.

Different units have different weapon modifiers. This means that for example airborne units are less affected by energy based weapons than by ballistic weapons.

It's either"may the force be with you" or "use the force", i am not sure, but i saw it.

It's "Use the Force Luke", categorized as generic ;)

Yah, doesn't get more generic than that ^^

Is this even possible code-wise?

Also: in TC, does killing enemies really take from their tickets??

It was at least planned like that i think.
I saw a list somewhere in these here boards where it was detailed how many ticks certain kills took.

Assault=5 tickets
Heavy=4 tickets
Medium=3 tickets
Light=2 tickets
BA=1

That means killing an enemy= enemy mech class+1(for the BA in it), and destroying abandoned mechs=tickets shown above

So, what about tanks and aero?

Probably the same as mechs. A Demolisher (Assault tank) would take 5 tickets, a Harasser (light tank) would take 2.

Yeah I know it's like this in TSA - ticket mode,

but I thought in TC you lose tickets for every base controlled by the enemy team?

There is ticket bleed from bases and from dying.
