BA HUD improvements
« on: January 03, 2011, 04:28:24 PM »
The BA HUD is awesome, I actually feel like I am in a piece of battle armor now.

My only suggestion so far would to change the weapon charging/reloading indicators. The colors are just different tones of the yellow-green color, but it's too subtle in my opinion. Maybe change it to red or orange or some hue that has more contrast from the weapon ready hue.

Good job on the revisions, great changes everwhere although I am still discovering them.

Servers still seem to be crashing a lot though. :(

I must say at first I was skeptic about the HUD but I grew accustomed to it and now I actually really like it. The only problem is that you can't read who you killed and the other way around because the upper side of the HUD overlays the notices. ;)

I already posted this and the devs are aware... kind of obvious either way.

I am wondering what all the fluff really is... I have seen so many visor cracks, hargel splats and the occasional blood splatter inside the visor, not to mention the two top fluff data deeds.... the suit breach and the meds being administer 'icons'

I love how it seems only the blood splatters really seems to disappear, I have run around a map for 20 minutes or so with various cracks in my visor.

Those cracks are like battle scars. The more you have, the more of a bad ass you are  ;D

i love the new hud other than the fact the kill notification is covered up in the top left corner

i somehow got my cracks repaired once, got mech taken out, ejected, took damage, cracked shield, ran back to mechbay, bought heavy laser and mPPC and my shield was insta-fixed !!

I would like to see the top, slightly to the left, crack graphic to changed so it doesn't interfer with the cross hair so much

I think the cracks/HarJel should, if anything, interfere more with your ability to aim.  Like, one nice big crack or splat right on the crosshair when you get taken below 20 health or something.

Noone mentioned the EMP static that happens when you get hit (but not killed) by PPC-splash
(I'm saying "splash" because oviously a direct hit should 1hit you XD)
It's so ugly, nasty, annoying... just give 'Mechs some similar effect and PPCs will be so much more useful XD

One downside though: the crosshair needs a different color... it's too subtle right now.

because BA aren't easy enough to kill already?  BA already lost a lot of field of vision in this update, they have to look through this shield, and then when it's cracked you dont have much left to look through...i think its fine as it is

on a side note the crosshairs are too subtle agreed

i wonder though....seeing as pretty much every person i have seen mention the corsshairs says they are too light or subtle....how is it the entire dev group thought it would be fine?  how come you guys, when faced with a dilemma...why dont you post up several crosshair types on the forums in a thread and let the community vote on which they like best?  you don't have to say what they are for or why or anything else.....just a simple, which crosshair do you prefer the most?  and let the community have some input to tiny little things like that?

Lol, blood stains drip away but the hargel and cracks will stay.
Makes sense to me anyway.

Anyways, love the new BA HUD. It's reduced field of vision doesn't bother me as I can still see at least 80% of what's happening. The yellow-green lines and text look great and match the HUD well (especially for Elementals). I love the malfunction icons when you die, too.
The stimpack icons for low health are cool but a bit weird, they sometimes appear as soon as I spawn. And of course the V shape is great!

All I can really put out that isn't pro-BA is that since 0.4.0, sometimes BA weapons I purchase at base don't appear when I eject or leave a mech in the field. Ex: I'll buy a micro heavy laser in addition to the small laser, then purchase a mech and go out to battle. Once my mech is badly crippled to the point where I need to eject, then I do so, only to realize I have somehow lost the micro heavy laser and am left only with the default BA weps.

Overall, great work though!

I actually have no problem with the crosshairs

Sometimes the game bugs and I don't see them at all (back in 0.3.2) and I could still aim pretty well
It's even easier now that you can use the shield to find the center because of where it dips

But then again, changing the brightness/visibility/shape of the crosshair doesn't look too labour intensive, so if enough people want it changed, why not?

The devs made MHL and PPC dedicated BA weapons, so you lose them if you get into any vehicle

I'd stick with either the red lazor for killing vehicles, or the AC2 for anti BA (1 hit kill, but high recoil)

I remember hearing about this, but I don't always lose the MHL or mPPC when I take them into a vehicle with me. I guess it still needs a little work. That's cool though.

Is the vehicle a APC? That should be the only vehicle that allows this.  It for a while at least has been if you get in with two weapons you leave one behind.  MHL was made in 3.1 or 3.2 so it gets dropped entering a mech, the mppc does the same now... which makes sense, I mean where the hell does he store the BA armor in the cockpit... plus i love the superman change! ;) Reality is nice... but I like having a BA suit vs running around unarmored vs mechs :D

At first I didn't like the new hud. It took to much field of view and obstructed the Crysis Hud. Now, its kinda grown on me. I've gotten used to the new field of view and I like seeing how many cracks I can get on my visor without dieing. Makes playing a BA more immersive. While all the status bars and bells and whistles are nice, I hardly ever catch myself looking at them. Which is a shame since someone put the time and effort into putting those things into the game. The EMP from a near miss from a PPC is a PAIN in the arse and I like it, but I think it's a little too over the top.

Tho this is a bit off topic, anyone else have problems throwing more than one grenade at a time?
