Yo dawg, I heard you like MRMs
« on: January 04, 2011, 10:47:53 AM »
So I cut their range to 650m, gave them bad damage, gave them a minimum range, and made 20% of the salvo peel off to the right for some reason. But dun' worry dawg, 'sall good, I gave clan the old MRMs but with lock on and uber speed.

The entire Inner Sphere is now sad panda.  :'(

Sort of a joke thread but I would like people's opinions on new MRMs.  :)

That sideways 'tard' missile effect did have me wondering.

Don't worry, it's a known bug. It would be fixed as soon as all more pressing issues would be resolved.

Yes, it's called a BETA for a reason.

Also, the "minimum range" you speak of is all of 20m, if you are actually encountering this as a limitation in your ability to play the game then I can only slowly shake my head at you in sadness.

Also, the 650m maximum does reflect the MEDIUM Range Missile nature of the asset more accurately than the old 800m setting which I consider "Long".

Don't forget that MRM are not nearly as succeptible to AMS damage and they can actually be self-guided by the player which is useful in many situations.

Finally, your continued negative attitude on these forums is wearing down my tolerance to dangerous levels.  Please keep your criticism constructive and positive or we may all find out where my patience ends.

AFAIK the damage on MRMs didnt change. Will have to get used to the lesser range though - i used to like unloading them at point blank as well.

The raven E is quite a good mech though, does alot of damage.

New idea- would I be able to use an external hard drive to add RAM and/or improve gigahertz?

Wow, I didn't even notice the Maximum range nerf!!!
I usually don't spot mechs until they come into range, I guess...

Also, I used the dual MRM40 Catapult and it is a MONSTER still.
For some reason, the rectangular shape of the pattern makes it more powerful against tanks in this version.

Well in 0.3.2 MRMs were my favorite weapon to use for killing a lagging BA. A "Dodge This" moment where my MGs, and Pulse lasers just never seem to register a hit. MRMs at point blank range were also good for taking out those tanks that drive into your legs and hide in the blindspot of most directional weapons.

So there were some legit uses for a point blank volley.

In that case the BA got inside your Medium Range Missile envelope and he deserves to enjoy all the spoils that result.  The same is true for long-range only variants like the Catapult C, if it gets caught up close it is not in a good place.

That close you are much better off using something short ranged... like SRMs.

They're much less useful at short ranges, around 100 m or less. they seem to fly in less of a close formation, spreading damage all over the target, much like a missile based LBX. They are now much more effective at max range. I ripped apart a Gauss Vulture at 500m with these things on a Catapult a few days ago. To me, it makes them more unique, rather than being giant dumbfire SRMs.

Ah! Minimum range. This explains a few living BA.
Liking the range debuff. Not sure I like the ATMs but I have not played enough to get a proper opinion on those yet.

Semi-related: Anyone else get the weird effect where a missile seems to stop mid air and then just vanish? Know if that is just the visual representation or if the actual "damaging entity" also stops (halts?)? I _think_ it is only visual, but sometimes it is hard to tell.

Yep, all the time. I stopped using the SRM Harasser, SRM Vulture,  and Owens B because of it. I think the damage still happens, but the lack of visual effect messes with my ability to hit the target.

Same here with SSRMs, Merf. What's worst is when they do it right out of the launcher and phantom-explode, causing screenshake. Happens most often while moving forward, so I've started going into reverse right before firing to get out of range of my ghost missiles and avoid the shake. :-\
