LBX Rate of fire.
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:00:15 PM »
this has been looked at and discussed in many threads before, but now It gets its own.

put it bluntly.
the LBX rate of fire is consistent in all its variants and calibers.
this means that a LBX 2 fires exact as fast as an LBX 20.
this is ridiculous and makes the weapon a bad joke.

the AC rate of fire is already higher, and scales up with lower calibers. it would be only fair and logical to do so too regarding LBX weapons.

for the love of all AA variants, and anti aircraft fighters, or just all variants mounting LBX 2/5/10s, please fix this.

This has my full support!
Make it fire as fast as the next bigger NORMAL class AC and it should be good.
So the LB-X2 gets the AC5 ROF, the LB-X5 gets the AC10 ROF and the LB-X10 gets the AC20 ROF. And the LB-X20 gets one/two thirds/(or one half) of the ROF of an AC20.

I don't care how they scale the rate of fire, but it should be scaled on size!
its in the dev's hands, and they will probably find a good ROF for them via playtests.

It's the main reason for people choosing the 4xAC5 over the 4XLB-X2 i think.

ok, for those people who voted no, could you please post as of why a LBX5 should fire as fast as a LBX20?

Here's an interesting brainstorm, not fully thought out, but really just something to digest in your head.

Planetside. The Scattercannon MAX.

This bad motherfapper carries a shotgun with three barrels. The shortest barrel has the loosest choke, spraying shot willy-nilly with poor accuracy, but at a very high rate of fire. It's the room sweeper. The longest barrel predictably has the tightest choke but an awful rate of fire. The third barrel is a middle-ground.

I mean... WHAT IF... :D

I'm torn on this.
On the one hand, I'd like to see the smaller LBX getting a faster rate of fire, I had suggested something like that a while ago, along with some suggestions on multiple ammo weapons.
On the other hand... do we really need another fast firing ballistic weapon? I like the more burst like damage of the small LBX, it makes them a better choice for units with a small window of opportunity, like air units and lights. Maybe they just need a small damage raise, or shoot more pellets but with less individual damage. Or a more significant range bonus over (U)ACs.

Hmm.

AC20: 350m   -   LBX20: 450m   -   +100m
AC10: 550m   -   LBX10: 700m   -   +150m
AC5: 800m   -   LBX5: 800m   -   no difference
AC2: 1200m   -   LBX2: 1000m(?)   -   -200m

This is strange. The larger LBXs have a notable range bonus over standard ACs, but the small calibers have either no difference or a penalty, in addition to the reduced LBX damage at long range.

Perhaps there is a problem here?

Hmm... Never thought about that. Looks like smal caliber LBXs could use a little range increse.

This is what I'm talking about  ;D

The LBX2 should have a range around 1400m, and the LBX5 a 1000m range, IMHO.

If that is a problem with ASF balance then reduce the damage bonus to x4 or x4.5 instead of x5.

the LBX2 should have a range of 1500m.
the Ac2 got a range of 1200, and 24 hexes.
so the LBX2 should have 1500m, with 30 hexes.

(1200/24) * 30 = 1500m

the problem is, currently the only difference between the LBXes is range and damage. there is absolutely no reason not to take an LBX20, and even then they do less damage than a AC20. (no crits really hurt that weapon)

the LBX5 is a peashooter, absolutely useless in all regards, because you only got one shot at the aero before it gets out of reach, and the damage is not nearly enough to 1 shot or 2 shot the plane.
again, would be only logical to scale the Rate of fire, instead of changing the functionality of the weapon.

Agreed with the range - the LBX-2 was the longest-ranged direct-fire CBT weapon, specifically to try to compensate for the incredibly pitifully questionable application of the weapon.
