Sparrowhawks in 0.4.0
« on: January 10, 2011, 04:50:12 PM »
Before were two good Sparrowhawks configurations. First was solid anti-air fighter and second was one of the best reckoning unit with NARC. Since 0.4.0 all Sparrowhaws are very cheap and are very very useless, IMO.

There is also a clear bug with landing streak when unknown force heels Sparrow to right side (Sometimes it happens with Sulla after landing too).

I think Sparrowhawk should be nemesis of all light and medium air units and force heavy ones to keep distance (run away to their AA units) or risk to take solid damage and be destroyed if they try to completely ignore Sparrowhawk.

QFT. I agree, it should really be an Air-Air fighter. If IS gets Anti-Air missiles we should see some of those on the Sparrowhawk

It would be great if there were more recon opportunities, then the sparrowhawk could really shine as a scouting craft.

I know a lot of them have C3 but I feel like it's not enough to feel effective. I've not looked at them really since 0.4.0 but if they no longer have NARC's that would be great to put in.

Are there any other gadget/sensor/support related equipment in the BT universe that they could use? Like some kind of deployable radar beacon for 60-120 seconds or so (or perhaps even forever, as long as they are not destroyed)? They just seem like the perfect unit to relay battle information, statistics, etc but the only thing like that we have currently would be C3.

They don't even have C3 any more.
One variant has C3 but no enhanced radar, so its almost totally useless.

I don't even care that their weapons got reduced so much, but removing the electronics really hurt them.

C3, BHP, GECM and NARCs should be their primary equipment, I think. If NARC range were reduced (which I believe it should be), then Sparrowhawks would be uniquely able to land beacons by getting in and out fast before AA could react.

I agree completely. What happened here? I always liked the sparrowhawk because it was a squarely teamplay oriented ASF and it really isn't anymore.

I've got no idea what sort of tonnage it can carry, but can we please have a sparrowhawk variant with C3, BHP and a NARC launcher? I don't care if it only carries a pair of machine guns as far as weapons go, it was cool as a support/ scout fighter, but it can't really do that with C3 and no radar upgrades. You have to fly really close to the ground to pick up anything on radar, and it doesn't have the armour to make doing that anything other than a terrible idea.

I have never seen a Sparrowhawk in the skies since 0.3. Why? because the Sulla is a much better all round fighter, has the capability to do damage to ground targets, and mostly, is available at the start of the round. It was much better in 0.3 when you had to get your rank up to fly anything bigger than a Sparrowhawk.

I have never seen a Sparrowhawk in the skies since 0.3.

I have, yesterday.
Too bad I was in a Huit P and it was passing 400m away from me ;D

But let's look at the Sparrow variants for a second:
Prime:
2 AC2, 2 MGun
8332 CBills
A:
2 ERSBL, 2 MPL, C3
17164 CBills
B:
2 MGun, 2 SSRM2, BHP
10914 CBills
C:
2 MBL, 2 MGun, NARC, BAP
18414 CBills

No variant has any tons for extra ammo, they all have paper armor and it's not even faster than a Sulla.
When flying level, the Sparrow goes up to ~360kph, ~410kph with boost, the Sulla does ~350kph, ~420kph with boost.

What are they good for?
Prime: Hunting other Sparrows/Harassing Sullas?
A: Pitiful scout, can try to attack flyers/ground targets but the 400m max range means it's probably going to die
B: 2 SSRM2? I don't know, tickle VTOLs?
C: NARC stuff, try to do damage with it's MBLs

It's obvious and understandable that the Sparrowhawk doesn't have alot of tonnage for weapons, but about the only thing it has going for it atm is that the Prime is the cheapest vehicle available and can therefore be used as throwaway transport. Hop in, bail near a base, cap it, buy something that can actually, you know, do stuff ;)
A variant with C3 and BHP, maybe NARC but no other weapons would be a great fast scout and as long as the ClanVsIs balance isn't complete and the mode viable, the Sulla is just better at everything.
If the Corsair is going to be similar to the Sulla, the Sparrowhawk won't ever be used unless someone just wants to give all his remaining cash away and move out to get himself killed >_>

Wow I hadn't even looked at the sparrowhawk changes until seeing this thread.

What an incredibly pointless set of loadouts.

Wonder how those came about o_O

All Sparrowhawks had been useful and their destinctive role in 0.3.
They got scrapped and redone. I have no clue why.  :-\
