Living Legends Store?
« on: January 16, 2011, 08:09:11 PM »
I'm well aware of the restrictions on charging for the Mod of course, but I had a question about a potential indirect revenue source.

I'm sure this has already been discussed, but what about selling t-shirts, mugs, even  keyboards custom templated for the game?  I think I've seen other community mods do this and maybe they are able to pocket that money?  I know I would buy the hell out of a MWLL t-shirt, especially if I thought the money would go towards caffinating a developer! ;-)

Just an idea...

I would love something like this, as I would like some MWLL swag myself, however other mod teams aren't under quite the same types of license restrictions we are, so I don't know if this is possible for us to do or not, as it would still technically involve us receiving monetary compensation for any product - game, t-shirt, mug or otherwise - that relies on the MechWarrior intellectual property, even if it's just the word "MechWarrior".

Great idea though.

Why not do some kind of contest for 1 or 2 'official' MWLL-Logo-Template-whatever which are download.
Afterwards everybody who is interested could get his stuff on his own by using one of the plenty custom shirts sites.

Mechforce Germany had BT related prices, including Shirts, on the last Nordcon in Hamburg.
They also sold them. I got the Eridani Light Horse, the Grey Death Legion, the Star League and another dark coloured shirt with a logo on it that i can't place.
I would LOVE more of such stuff. I try to haggle my FLGS out of BT related stuff all the time . . Posters and Promo Material for example . .
bastard keeps it all to himself though . . not that i can actually blame him for that, seeing how i would do the same . .

Maybe at the root of part of this issue is that we need some MWLL-original mech designs.  are there any in the game or all of them are CBT?  If not, maybe we come up with three or four and then we will have graphics and names for swag.  Is there any other MWLL-original content they could use?

Also, what about a custom control panel or keyboard made with the game keys?  If someone could afford the cash outlay, you can have those made by several manufactures that make keyboards for industrial and controls applications and sell them.  Many players would love to own some hardware made for the game and there shouldn't be any IP issues with that, right?

I guess it would cost a lot more and take a lot more startup engineering than a t-shirt though!

I'd really like to have something like that but, just like Siege, I'm not sure if it's legally possible. Making keyboards with MWLL commands marked on them(again, great idea, I'd love to have one) could be less of an issue, but I'm no lawyer to say that for sure. I guess we need a word from KingLeer on that matter.

Post a picture, someone here might be able to identify it. By any chance, is it a shark? You might have bought a Stefan Amaris shirt!

Not that any of the Dev's are making any recommendations, but what's to stop me from taking the MWLL logo and printing an iron on transfer and making my own T-shirt?  Bearing in mind that I have no intention of selling t-shirts. I just want to be a MWLL geek and show my indifference to fashion.   :)

LL should just start selling "bath salts" and start raking in the cash.
