What everybody seems to be forgetting here is the simple answer:
If it has MechWarrior in it, you cannot sell it. You can order a custom patch or shirt for yourself I suppose (AFAIK even for personal use you're not allowed to use/display/reprint copyrighted images, etc. without permission, since that infringes on the ability of the companies properly licensed to do so to make money), but for sure the instant you try to sell it (or the printer reprints copyrighted material and sells it to you), you're in copyright violation. In this case, for those who don't know or have forgotten, that IP is owned by Microsoft, who has proven in the past their willingness to sue on any pretext. Additionally, having caught anyone selling MWLL-specific merchandise they'd instantly turn their eyes to this team, and I wouldn't be surprised if they yanked our license and issued a Cease and Desist. Not that they'd need any reason at all, but I'm sure it would be something like "on the grounds of encouraging - or not actively discouraging - copyright abuse." Sure, the DMCA is bullshit, but it is what it is, and it applies directly to this game and the dev team.
I'd like to go on the record as absolutely discouraging ANYONE doing/selling anything that might attract unwanted attention to this mod. If you need an example, try
this one where a mod team using Blizzards StarCraft SDK to make a "World of StarCraft" mod has been issued a C&D just, more or less, for making a game too good. The last thing we need is MS deciding we're somehow a threat to their IP and Licensing rights (if they don't actively seek to maintain control over their IP - by doing things like actively hunting down and prosecuting violators - then they risk having said IP declared abandoned and thus public domain) and/or their ability to make money from that IP, then we're toast faster than you can click on the thread. I'm not even really sure we could do Wandering Samurai shirts tbh. There are some questions about this, one of which legitimately is "would anyone actually care," but that's still rather unresolved in my view: in any event if you asked Crim and Kami directly and assuming you receive their permission, I doubt there'd be a problem with doing a one-off personal shirt in terms of legal response, but it's still a pretty fine line.
PLEASE do not use copyrighted IP without proper permission from the IP holders, especially in the case of anything with the word Mechwarrior in it (even just in the MWLL acronym) or any 'mech designs, nor use these forums as a place to encourage others to do so or as a place to discuss legal-dodges and grey areas in an attempt to skirt the law. I believe I can safely speak for the rest of the team when I say we absolutely discourage all forms of piracy or IP-theft/abuse.
