Complete noob. Need some info
« on: January 18, 2011, 02:31:52 PM »
Mods/Admins can move if this is not the right place to post.

I would like to download the latest version, but I want to be able to download it here at work where we have uncapped and then just install at home. The reason for this is that I only have a capped account at home and two brothers who want it as well. I tried searching the site and forums, but I can only find download alternatives for the older versions.

Is the 1.7mb installer file (http://www.mwlldownload.com/) the only way to install the MOD?? Or am I just being an idiot and missing something?  :-[

It should be the only way to install it indeed but there is a "workaround" posted for those having issues with the auto updater. Reason being that the auto updater also detects what Game you are running and adjusts some files accordingly so you can play the game.

I just did a search for "workaround" and found this topic: http://forum.mechlivinglegends.net/index.php/topic,11492.15.html
I will give that a go.

Thanks

hnn I created a folder on the desktop and directed the download to that folder. When the entire beta was downloaded, I moved it to another HDD where Crysis Wars is ;) One solution if the installer cannot see Crysis Wars >:(

iirc there is a torrent file, in the downloader.

So last night I tried to get it to work, but straight of the bat I got a few errors. After just click OK on all the errors the game actually launches, but crashes when you try and start any form game (No specific error here).

So I've been trying to read up on what exactly is needed to get it to run and then just general info on what you can and can't do. I have Crysis patched to 1.2 and I simply extracted the game files to my Crysis installation, but I figured there must be more to it. The problem is that I can't find a proper list of requirements for what's needed to play MWLL. I also would like to know if it's possible to setup a lan game and if yes, how? I was also wondering where the 1.7mb installation file (From here: http://www.mwlldownload.com/) downloads all the games files? Or does it download them straight to your Crysis installation folder?

So, just to recap:
1. Installed + Patched Crysis
2. Extracted MWLL Mod files to Crysis installation dir (Got errors, but after errors games does launch although it crashes as soon as you try and start any form of game. Windows just asks if I want to Debug or close the program... so that's useless)
3. Ran the 1.7Mb install (While disconnected from net) and although it ran with no issues as far as I can tell, I still have the same problems.
4. <More steps needed??>

I forgot to take some screens of the errors I got, but I'll try and remember tonight and I'll post them. I desperately want to play this, but I just can't afford to use my cap especially if the installation fails and I need to start over. And then I have 2 brothers who are nagging me to get it to work. Sucks to be the oldest sometimes  ::)

Sorry if I'm being an idiot, but I'm just trying to understand how the MOD is suppose to work and what's needed.

Thanks

 You're doing it all wrong.

 1. you need crysis 1.21 not 1.2. That's one more patch to install
 2. you need to unpack MWLL into \crysis\mods\mwll directory Doing what you did not only wouldn't allow MWLL to work but also ruined your Crysis installatin, so you will need to uninstall it completely and then reinstall it again.
 3. installer should be runed before unpacking MWLL files into \crysis\mods\mwll, not after
 4. yes, see Setting up Gamespy account for multiplayer section of installation guide(it's mostly outdated but this one is accurate) on MWLL Wiki.

 So, step by step:

1 ) Completely uninstall your current Crysis installation, clean up remaining Crysis folders(usually in Program Files\Electronic Arts\) manually.
 2 ) Reinstall Crysis
 3 ) Apply 1.2 patch for Crysis
 4 ) Apply patch 1.21 for Crysis
5 ) disconnect from internet, install MWLL web installer. Say NO when it asks to download/update MWLL
6 ) Extract MWLL files into <crysis installation dir>\mods\mwll folder, create folders if needed.
7 ) Follow "Setting up Gamespy account for multiplayer" guide to set up gamespy account for MWLL
8 ) connect to the internet, run MWLL Launcher, press "check for updates" link at the bottom of the launcher window. Follow updater's instructions to update MWLL to the latest version.

After that, if you will do everything correctly, MWLL would be ready to run. If needed, use Actionmapper ("Config actionmaps" button of MWLL launcher) to customise controls.

Also keep in mind that most players and servers have moved over to Crysis Wars (included with Crysis Warhead). So don't be surprised if you don't see many players/servers online via Crysis as you can't play games with the Wars players with that version.

Seems so logical now  :-[
Oh, and I did mean 1.21.

That guide (or a newer updated version) should be the first link on the Main_Page IMO. I didn't think to look under "Other MWLL Guides" on the wiki page.

Thanks for the help.

That's disappointing as I don't have Warhead or Wars and I assume there is no LAN support either?  :(

Go and pick up a cheap Warhead deal and join the fun :)
As far as i know, LAN-only games are not possible at the moment (you need to be connected to the internet for the authentifation etc.?), but you can easily open a password-protected game (remember to only use the dedicated server option for this, don't start it in-game!) for LAN parties etc.

Thanks. I'll play around with it tonight and see what I can and can't do.
Is this guide up to date and will it be all that I need?

This is sadly not quite up-to-date (SolarisArena is now TeamSolarisArena etc.), but for smaller LAN-games just use the "dedicated server" option of the launcher, it already generates the files for you:

Hope that you'll have no more troubles with MWLL. And if you'll have, don't hesitate to ask for help. As for LAN game, I'm not quite sure but I was pretty sure it's possible, though I'm not 100% sure now. I think the best way for you to check is to try and see if it works.
