X Pulse lasers

Anyone done any tests to see how they compare to regular pulse and beam lasers?

I didn't do "tests" but I did use them. I found out that they are not awesome.

I find the small XPLAS to be an interesting weapon, as some variants can fire theirs indefinitely.

The medium XPLAS is also interesting, but is more useful as a plinking weapon than a true combat weapon due to poor burst damage.

No experience with the large XPLAS yet, but I imagine the Awesome that packs four of them could be interesting.

They're really terrible if you have less than 30 FPS. Otherwise they seem decent, but the regular pulse lasers seem slightly better DPS wise, though they have shorter range.

I'll echo they're decent at range, but don't expect them to carry the day in a brawl.

Thus far I've found them quite blah. The xSPL is actually worth something when it comes to countering BA, whereas the spl is trash at it. Stacked xLPL is ok on the awesome, does decent damage. Not impressed at all with the xMPL though.

Its like they took the laser and turned it into a small caliber laser with better range.

While I do love the idea of having them on demand, their rate of heat and damage are far too low.

Both should be jacked up substantially imo. This would make things like a x4 XLPL impossible and pointless.
But Large Pulse Lasers are hardly ever stacked beyond one or two in CBT and MPL ever beyond 3 or 4. The stakes should be raised with these IMO to turn them into the extremely dangerous but high heat weapons they were intended to be.
I would support keeping the differences between normal and X however.

As to normal pulse lasers... They are a bit of a problem to me... the clan ones seem to be in a good spot... I cant really comment on the state of IS pulse lasers because they are not on enough assets, the x4MPL Osiris is a total joke due to having no HS whatsoever, its one of the few true designs that feature redundant weapons to survive losing an arm and should really only be fired in pairs.

The clan pulse lasers right now are in a good place though. Has anyone tried the Uller C lately? Holy God. Damage. You can eat through Partisans in seconds with that thing. The Cougar prime does great damage as well but lacks the heatsinks to really eat things.

Really when it comes down to it, our x4 LPL set ups are silliness, there is a reason they don't exist in CBT and as MWLL stays quite true to its numbers, these simply run so hot even with lots of heatsinks, it is a bit pointless to boat them beyond 2 or 3.

It would be nice to see them on more mechs though... wish the IS ones did as much damage as the clan ones but, hey, what can you do? The devs have been very lenient on this because if you look at sarna, Clan large pulse lasers have the range of LRMs.. which would be absurd.

I find the medium x-pulse compliment the MRM20 on the Raven quite nicely. Haven't seen Xpulse on much anything else yet. The 4 LXP on the Awesome are kinda fun. Link firing them will scare the shit out of your target and can be kept up for quite a while heatwise.

On the Aussie servers with a decent ping these can do some damage, but the time you've got to hold them on target makes them quite weak.

On the US servers they're terribad.. I can't describe how useless these things are with a higher ping. It appears most of the pulses don't register.

Who knows, and who cares because the prime is absolutely rape!  ;D It demonstrates just how underated IS pulse weapons really are in living legends.

We're working on making them less frame-dependant, but that's a tad slow coming.  I'll see if i can convince certain people to let me make them more useful though.

Ok I'm gonna be the guy that say he likes them.  The Bushy D(?) with 2mXPL, 1 LXPL, and 2 SSRM6 is a mean little line breaker.  Concentrating/tunnel-visioning is not their main strength, it is a weakness actually.  They really do have a great tactical use, you can shoot anyone, accurately, at any time!!
Grant that Bushy has a large and two mediums, it can really scare the bejesus outta folks when you walk in slowly and start hitting everyone with everything on board. :)

have fun out there kids...

@AlfalphaCat:
Agreed.  The Bushwacker with the XPLASers is for some reason the best mech with XPL.

@zombat:
I truly miss the Pulse Laser Warhammer, that was one of my favourite one of the Warhammers in 0.3.x
I implore the devs to please bring it back.

@Taemien:
I find the MXPL Raven not very useful because of it's not-so-great speed and wonky MRMs.  And the 2x MXPL just feel so "not worth firing".
And I never found success with the Awesome with 4 LXPL.  If I hold it down on an enemy for more than 5 seconds, I get mobbed immediately and get destroyed (or legged by a certain clan).  They are just so visible to the enemy and since you have to keep it on a target for so long, you'll get mobbed just for being visible.

================

My comments:
1) There should definitely be a harasser with XPulse
2) Xpulse is best suited for assets that can keep their distance.
3) I have horrible framerate
4) Far too low damage and low heat
5) More dmg more heat please.  Trying to do damage with them feels like I am just inviting a mob to kill me without actually outputting any threatening damage...

Questions:
1) Is the damage tickrate tied to framerate?
2) Are the damage ticks reported server side or client side?
