First of all, I'd like to say that this mod is really fun to play, and it's amazing that so much detail has gone in to every aspect of it.
So, the cockpits are pissing me off.
I love that this mod has cockpits. I don't think I'd quite enjoy this mod near as much if I didn't feel like I was actually sitting in the mech with all the gizmos and gadgets right in front of me. As I played through my first game, I couldn't get enough of this feature- Then I got in the Uziel. Now, I know that the Uziel from the original mechwarrior games has a hud that is a little more obstructive than the other mechs. In fact, it almost takes up as much of the screen as any of the mechs in this mod. My view port was small, and all of my screen was filled with gray. I could live with it. It was hard to see exactly what was going on, but I could live with it. Then I started walking, and my mech was bumbling all over the place. I don't know if maybe the Uziel has more of a flamboyant strut to it than the other mechs or its gyro is way out of wack, but I swear it was jumping around so much it almost felt like the left side of my cockpit was touching the right side of my screen and the bottom of the cockpit was touching the top of my screen, and the only way I could tell what the hell was going on was the icons on my radar.
Don't get me wrong, I love that there's a cockpit, and I love that it moves around like as if I were really in a mech, but does the Uziel need to really be more my enemy than any other single entity in the game? Now, at first I was thinking, "Oh, they'll just fix this later on in development." Then, I started to realize what this mod was missing visually...
The first person camera in the mech shakes, like you're in a mech bouncing around, then the cockpit shakes differently, again like the mech is bouncing around. But shouldn't the first person camera shake with the mech, since the cockpit is what you're sitting in? Then it started to really bother me. I was bouncing around in the cockpit that was bouncing around, and everything started feeling fake and incorrect.
Essentially what I'm getting at is it would be less obstructive and feel a lot more immersive if the cockpit didn't move independent of the camera, but the camera moved with the cockpit. So if the mech hops around a lot more, the camera hops around a lot more. Now, of course, I understand that there are players out there who throw up in the car every time they take a drive down the street, so perhaps an option to make it so the cockpit moves but the camera stays still, instead of having a little bit of both. So the camera either realistically moves with the cockpit, or the camera stays still instead of every so gently rocking like it's a boat in the ocean (as it seems to do now), and the cockpit moves. Of course I'll be taking the first since I don't want to get in to one of the more favorable mechs (Uziel), and watch the view port flop all over my screen like a dying fish.
