Enhanced torso pitch for Mad Dog.
« on: January 25, 2011, 05:11:45 AM »
There's actually no reason why this mech can't aim *straight up*. When it's crouched and aiming all the way up, the cockpit is unobscured enough that if you simply adjusted the player's vision, they can look directly up without any view obstruction. The missile racks, literally, are aligned parallel to the ground. The arms, given their design, just need to rotate some and again, they're aiming straight up. Furthermore, 360 torso twist would make this thing more than an aero rapetrain, so much so that we'd need to invent a new word.

The only way this could be better is if Darth Vader stood on the nose while you did this and melted faces with a bitchin' guitar solo.

Don't believe me? Check this shit out.

See the concrete pillar behind the cockpit in the first shot? That's looking straight up. The actual roof doesn't begin until the angled part ends. It's literally one of the best cockpit views around.

With the magic of technology, combined with low standards and complete overuse of the clone brush, I give you a proof of concept:

That image does not care. Look at it again and you will realize how much it does not care! =)

Frosty: +1 for epic picture, but no support for the idea from me.

I support this suggestion.

We all have always been wondering what mech could be the clan counter to the IS Rifleman should we ever get it, and with it dedicated AA mechs.

The answer has always been right in front of us.
Both 60 tons, both only medium armor for their size, both 360° torso rotation.
Never arm once what you could arm twice.

Why would the Clans need a dedicate AA mech, they'll have the Huit which the best AA platform right now.

But that one is ugly as hell  ;D

And with the modified Vulture there would be no need to animate and modell a completely new mech.

I think it's a good idea. Makes perfect sense from a visual standpoint.

Why would the Clans need a dedicate AA mech, they'll have the Huit which the best AA platform right now.

The Huit has a maximum speed of 30kph, 35 with a melted engine. The Vulture easily sustains 86kph. I think there's room for both.

However, I don't think  'dedicated' AA would be a good idea. Giving the Vulture an upward angle bonus like the current AA mechs would be good, or possibly an even bigger bonus. But it is not and should not be 'dedicated' AA. Highly mobile skirmishing and fire support should remain its main purpose, with AA, however useful, as an aside.
