The Corsair!
« on: January 26, 2011, 11:46:22 AM »

Who else besides me is stoked that we'll eventually have an I.S. fighter in the mid-range to use? I'll be free of my currently beloved Sulla.

Why would I celebrate you ask, when i love the Sulla so much? One weapon system...

X-pulse lasers.

I can see it now, dogfighting with a whole spread of flashing lasers spewing from my craft. It'll be SCHWEEEEET!  Also helps that it's a sexy thin profiled BEAST. Can I get mine in black and red with a gigantic Kell Hound's logo on the left wing and vertical stabilizer? Please please pleaaaaase?

Also would like to have a set of forthrightly displayed middle fingers on the underside of the wings to flash at my foes... *cough-grin*

I would like to see the skies crowded with aircraft of all shapes and sizes, all dropping in mercilessly on the few Mechs and Tanks who braved exiting their hangars.    That would be quite the sight to behold!

As long as it's not Evgen or somebody else in his horrible hawk moth, i can deal with most fixed wing ASF.

Corsair is going to be amazing. You guys should spawn it in editor, and see its current flight model. It was back before we changed aerospace to sane levels.

New idea- would I be able to use an external hard drive to add RAM and/or improve gigahertz?

Unfortunately lasers don't work very well on Aerospace unless you're dueling I guess because nobody wants to stop a duel to re-arm.

Xpulses lack any burst damage, which would make them ineffective as ground attack weapons. They'd be primarily air-to-air.

Not that this is a bad thing - the IS needs a medium interceptor to match the Sulla.

Yep. Imagine six medium X-pulse in two cycle fired groups. I'd be melting stuff pretty quick, and with the corsair's tonnage it could mount the heatsinks to handle that volume of fire.

The game more or less needs an actual mid-range plane. There's a big gap between the Sulla and Shiva and you spend most of your time flying around in a 40k cost plane until you can get your first 87k+ one.

Sulla is 45 tons, Corsair is 50. They'll both be medium range craft.

The best way to explain it is you have light mechs (Sulla/Sparrowhawk) and a heavy mech (Shiva). There's no medium plane to help make the transition easier. I know the Corsair's a medium plane like the sulla, but we also got the potential 60 ton Visigoth to fill in the gap between the 80 ton Shiva.

This is of course until we got every hole filled so we can have straight clan vs is.

I gathered that was what you meant after I posted. I'd love to see some of the 60-70 ton fighters in as well, specially some of the "flying wing" kinds just because, well, they look beast.

Honestly, more variety in ASF's would be a wonderful thing. Now if only we could get the real Sulla prime until then. Er-PPC, 2x ER-large, Er-small in a rear turret. Would be a nasty multi-role craft, compared to the machinegun/srm/uac2 pretender we have now.

I'm still waiting on the Hawkmoth D. And by that I mean a heavy VTOL that can provide some good firepower from up high. Of course I don't think any heavy VTOLs exist in BT  :-\
