What I like about MWLL
« on: January 27, 2011, 07:24:27 AM »
The games changes don't feel to arbitrary, and I always feel like I am re-learning the game, but it is a new and good game every time.

The latest patch has me a bit off kilter, I used to play 3 hours a night, now I am lucky to get an hour in a day, usually less, and many times none.

But, I still haven't figured out what the "best" mechs are for me.

Though i still love the Morrigu the most, the Vulture B has grown on me, and with the damage weighted scoring that has come through, it has been AWESOME!

I just found a new love for the Madcat with 2 erlbls 5 medium lasers and a gaus.

That is one of the interesting things in the 4.0 releases.

Every time I find _THE_ mech for me, something kills me and changes my world view.

For a while I was absolutely in love with the ATM 9 Puma, then I found that getting into close combat made it suck.

Then I fell in love with the Madcat with 2 atm 12, until I was beaten by a close range shadowcat ;)

But each map actually has its differences, and I am starting to learn there is not a one size fits all.

It used to be I would get up and buy a Novacat, then it was game over.  For the enemy because it was so one sided, for me because I always went straight to Novacat.

Now if you always try to take one mech, you will get something to counter you, and thats what I really like.

I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

Thats a good point. There isn't one asset that beats everything. Something that we haven't seen in a MechWarrior game.

But thats just on a 1v1 basis. Even with team makeups there's counters. And thats where the challenge comes in. What does the enemy have? What do we need? Where do we need it? Even in TSA this is a complex process. In the end, it takes strategy and communication to win the day. Which is a long cry from the days of MW3 where one person could take on 4-8 others (with a light mech).

AFAIK, Vulture With SSRMs and Lasers is good for TR, Vulture, Madcat and MK2 with ATMs is good for Marshes (also for DV) and that's actually all I use these days

I go from Parti or Harasser or TBlot sulla or Laser Owens or UAC Uller or RAC HM (really low survivability right now though) To Uzi P to SCat or Bushy To Vulture To Madcat to MK2 (one with 4 MHL is great when you need to BLAST THEM WITH PISS!)

Uzi P, Bushy and SCat are good at most ranges, and Uzi P excels at average range (300-600m). Vulture has 2 variants that I use, the one with Lasers and SSRMs for close range, and the one with ATMs and ERLBL for long range and aa

Madcat is also solid all around, and I usually roll with the PPC and ATM one, but I usually go from Uzi to Vulture to MK2 and skip the other mechs completely.
For the MK2, I really liked the 2HLL and 2CGauss rapetrain (I'm 90% sure I was the only person who ever used it) but they replaced it with the BLAST THEM WITH PISS! variant because of too much awesomesauce

It's funny because I never used any of my go-to vehicles before 0.4 (except for Scat, Bushy and Madcat, but everyone uses those :P)

I like that MWLL exists, everything else is just a bonus.

In all honesty, it's kind of why I'm not sure Mechlab is really needed.  As long as each mech has some useful variants that fulfill a role, you don't have to worry as much about the min/maxing that would eventually happen, and balancing for the devs is much easier.

I love it for all that has been said above and the true love for the battletech spirit that exist in the devs and many of the active community.

for 044 specifically I love that my good old bushy feels tough again :D which is great as i refuse to use Scats >:(

I love how unique it is amongst a landscape of first person run n' gun shooters :)  Go ahead, fire an AK47 with ACOG scope and Noobtube at my Bushwhacker. I dare ya!
Play my free open source web game MiniMek - Urbie Defense!  Its "mega fun" but with mini meks!

Hey I like scats... just not the lame ones... Prime is boss.

Hmmm, I like that it is tackling all the big problems of battletech video games and smiting them with great justice one at a time.
Which is why people who say no mechlab are fools, FOOLS I SAY, because not doing it would be missing a huge opportunity to actually pulling it off correctly.

Really the only thing I don't like about MWLL is there are less mechs in it than the older games... but I hope that will change with time.

I like unit recognition and the "oh shit" factor of realizing you are in the wrong asset to counter the enemy you just ran into, but because of good tactics you can still prevail.

I like that MWLL has a semblance of balance with only a few outstanding variants that I feel are roflstompy OP over the others. I generally only play with Primes or canon variants rather than those later era Battletech which favored boats over mixed weapon platforms from the hey-day of battletech or the ones cooked up by the devs (like 40 SSRM Vulture or 6 large laser Awesome).

I believe mechlab, if rushed or not put in with some serious balancing mechanisms, is going to do more harm than good to the game play, but I wait to be happily proven wrong since I, like most others on these boards, have a passion for designing battlemechs.

Wait, someone else in the world feels the same as well?

I love how unique it is amongst a landscape of first person run n' gun shooters :)  Go ahead, fire an AK47 with ACOG scope and Noobtube at my Bushwhacker. I dare ya!

I tested this in the editor, and standard Crysis weapons are completely borked against MWLL assets. With the SCAR you can down and Atlas in two and a bit clips.

And yes, using the wrong asset on certain maps can be disastrous. On Death Valley, I bought a Mauler E, expecting some base fighting down south. Nothing came, and as I headed to the centre base, A passing Cougar Prime started to harass me. due to the short range loadout and abysmal speed I was rather quickly defeated.

Ahahaha, someone needs to use the editor to make a tactical shooter vs mechwarrior video.

Korean soldier from crysis uses iron sights to open fire on a bushwhacker. Rounds plink off harmlessly.

Bushwhacker opens fire with RAC5s.

Korean soldier tries to sprint away.

Sprint bar runs out.

Soldier gets splattered with medium beam laser

I think my best was a 6v1 in an elemental (Pirates Moon of course) and winning with only one death.

Anyone remember the DHG_FOX by chance?

3 Heavy Medium Lasers, 1 JJ, and 1 ton of armor. Speed 162kph

Elementals were basically 10 ton mechs in PM.
