UAC10/20s feel and play awesome!
« on: January 28, 2011, 05:39:08 AM »
I gotta say I really dig the new big AC mechanics.
Low splash, high locational damage is how I always imagined them.

With the 6% armor boost and reduced ammo, it actually takes skill to use them.
You have to really aim your shots and conserve ammo.  No more spray and pray splash damage kills.
Coring or Arming with them is much easier if you're a person who can aim/lead well as you can concentrate your fire on one component and it does more damge on it and not around it.

Another player and I were in Uller B's (UAC10) and took down a Madcat MKII and Novacat like a hot knife through butter.  So satisfying.

Playing a different game than me then... UAC10 still plays like shit to me, took me a clip and a half to get through another uller... then got instantly and hopelessly shit-on when I tried to fight a Puma D in one (a fight I would have had a decent chance at in an Osiris Prime.)

I do agree new AC20 is boss, as is many many other aspects of this patch.

Cheaphammer B (2x AC10, MRM30, 2x MG)
I really like it more and more.

If you aim well, those two AC10 rip up lights from far away - great for sieging bases.
MRM30 up close rips up tanks.

High ping and UAC10(don't know about the un-Ultra ones) is the worst mix.  I lag shoot with them if that is the case, but it's weird, most times I 'hit' the shell sails on past the target.  Don't let the impact visuals fool ya, if you ain't getting the cash or hit sound, try lag shooting. :) :)

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

Yes, I am a master of lag-shooting, where the shell hits and it still sails past the mech =)

I keep running out of UAC20 ammo when I use the Thor. It has three tons, but I still run out all the time. <_<

I used to use that constantly but now the uziel prime/warhammer prime constantly trump it--the improved PPC's just own everything.

Surely not!  You're one of the few people I have seen that can use the Class 10 Ultras properly, I'm sure it was your UAC10 Uller that was causing me trouble time after time when I was running Partisans and Oros.

More ammo for the UAC10, sure I'm all for that (20% more per ton would help) but it's a pretty nasty weapon at around 600m in skilled hands.

Thanks for the praise(if I am meant at all^^), although today I was horribly lost with my Uller B against Maus xD
A bit more ammo for all ACīs/UACīs would be very very cool indeed xD

Still I am heavily in love with PPCīs/eRPCCīs and since today with the HeavyLargeLasers.
Nomming away at anything like THIS energybased^^

A question a bit off-topic here : will there be some more energy-only variants like the 2xPPC Osiris, possibly for Shadowcat,Uziel and some of the other more manouverable light/med mechs?

I've been considering rewriting things to allow for the AC10/20 line to be client side hit detection. I've just been a bit worried about people being hit and not realizing it. Its definitely something to look at in the future.

Eh, the leading is not that hard now. Got a lot better since 0.4 I think (could be a number of reasons involved as to why). Hopefully it is not just the more predictable mech movements. I do not think it is that since before I could sometimes get shots fired at someone moving straight towards or away from me to not register, but that I have not noted at all since 0.4 (Maybe Wars is the reason?).

What I am getting it is that I feel a bit worried about the benefits not being worth the risks. I always get scared about client side hit calculations being abused in cheats.

/Merf - Sort of surprised to see a change suggestion from a dev in a thread praising the current system ;)

Is the shell hit animation Clientside ? Because I never get shells flying through Mechs but I often get my shells hitting the Mech without him getting any damage.

If you switch AC shell hit detection to client side, will the target still get the "I was hit" sound even if the shell past him on his client ?
