Buying more things with money
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:35:08 PM »
How come you can't buy an orbital strike if you have 500,000 cbills?

It is true to canon, as when I played the board game, I was hit by orbital bombardment a few times!

Sometimes when you have so much money, you wish there were things to spend it on. Base upgrades, different colour skin, orbital strikes, APC airdrop? Ammo drops? Too bad you couldn't have an automated giant VTOL come pick you up off the field and fly you to safety for repairs?

Maybe a nice watch?

How would this make the game more fun?

If you have that much money as is you are already stomping the other side, in which case this makes the game even more one sided as you don't even have to expose yourself to danger to kill off the other team.  Not to mention making the winning side get easier repairs, reloads, or what have you.

Sounds cool...

you could just organize everyone and donate all your cash to get your team into the biggest assaults you can buy...or Demo's, either one...

I'm trying to think of the cheesiest thing you could spend money on...I rarely get passed mediums and never passed heavies so I don't know what the feeling of having to much Cbill's is like....

Expecting understanding and empathy on the internet (especially in Toast [especially by Bill]) = fail.

And I say hey hey hey....I said hey, what's goin' on And I say hey.... hey....I said hey, what's goin' on

A lot of people don't use assaults even if they have the money.

I often give away a ton of money and still have 200k left over. I wish there was more stuff to spend money on!

There's something expensive already planned.

Kodiak.

Given that one of the currently most expensive mechs is 70 tons, and that there's a 35 ton clan light that costs 72k, imagine how expensive true Clan Assault Mechs will be, especially more laser-oriented ones.

I would normally be in favor of support powers, including ship-to-surface bombardment, except the fact almost all of the normal things you'd want it for in a mech game - artillery, areospace strikes, etc - are already in the game and are even better, player run.
I will personally hunt you down and poptart your leg while your back is turned and you're in your base.

i like the idea of buying support actions

though for balance purposes, might be best to have them only available for purchase in buy zones.

Stuff like

(airdrops) from cheapest to most expensive
-Ammo palette drop (buy 8 tons of any ammo from it, or any amount of BA gear for free (after you pay out the nose for the drop that is))
-Minor repair kit drop (3000 c$ worth of repairs available for free for whoever shuts down next to it (the drop costs way more than 3000 though))
-sensor decoy pod drop (mimics a random unit from your team moving around the area on enemy sensors)
-remote sensor pod drop(stationary sensor station that broadcasts to only you)
-airdropped s-srm turret (at least BA can dodge srms, a laser turret would have been too easy to kill BA with)
-airdropped transport (drops in underarmed version of the harasser for when you are stuck out in the middle of nowheres and need a getaway vehicle)

(strikes) from cheapest to most expensive  (all should offer a special audible warning for anyone within the initial radius)
-Smoke-tillery (off map artillery uses smoke rounds to put up a thick smoke screen similar to the smoke fx coming from the d4 factory in deathvalley)
-Light artillery Barrage (bf2 style artillery barrage but with smaller scale munitions, minor damage)
-Inferno-tillery (off map arrow 4s splash area with inferno juice, minimal damage to vehicles, tons of heat)
-Fascam minefield (off map arrow 4s disperse landmines all over an area)
-Orbital strike (ridiculous expensive, takes a while to take effect, and a series of very obvious lasers from space (akira SOL satelite style) offer obvious warning on where its going to impact, followed by a a couple of lances of light from the sky and slightly modified overlapping nuke and LT effects on impact.

until the first fapper aim this at the enemy spawn ... (minefield and orbital strike @.@)

would be fun to see a UAV like you could deploy in MC1 but change cam for sensor package... so its more like the BF2 UAV

I like this idea. At least half the time I'm bank I end up with a huge surplus of c-bills and I've seen banks with over 1,000,000 c-bills and nothing to spend it on. Not everyone wants to be in the most expensive things all the time (which I think says a lot to the great balancing of the game, for the most part). It would be nice to have something like orbital bombardments or something ridiculously powerful and expensive for those once-every-few-game oppurtunities where someone has a few extra hundred thousand c-bills with nothing to blow it on.

I have such ideas and suggestions:
  • May still be necessary to add the possibility to transfer money into a common pot, or a common fund. So if necessary need (eg just ejected from the game and returning) players could after rebirth, to use them. But will need a lot of them do not restrict, or spend it all at once :D
  • By the way, and maybe still is to organize a system of selling or exchanging their furs to the newer or more. Or to introduce a system upgrade military units, when joining a repair dock in the central database. Such as more powerful weapons to hang out close configuration (Priority for OMNI-like systems).
  • But in general, still stands to introduce the conservation title and loan accounts, at least for the current game on the server. Because when the connection is lost, you have to start all over again ...
  • For the exchange of extra cash, want to add another color selection of those who have recently been reborn and has not had time to buy equipment. It's a little easier the issuance of money to needy players. And also help to avoid times when money was transferred before the death of a player.
  • In the server settings should be added to the choice options launch titles and the initial capital (cbills). Otherwise, there is an imbalance - the players who have accumulated a lot of money, are doing better and the dominant position (especially if anyone does not share  ;) ).

In general, yes, the cluster orbital bombardment of the planet really need  ;D ... joke.
A longtime fan of the BattleTech Series. Playing a board game and all games MechWarrior and MechCommander.
And sorry for my bad English.

easy, just deem main bases off limits to the orbital/artillery strikes, simple.  Maybe other team wants to capture it or whatever.  But its a game, its like magic, you don't gotta explain shit.

Hmm, if the bank is being implemented as an NPC, one could make it so that a certain ammount of money needs to be donated TO the bank to get access to things like the airstrip or assault mechs. it would force teamwork . . and that is only to get access, the money is gone afterwards and then you STILL need to buy the newly available assets . .

but i would like more stuff for the dedicated BA first.
running movement booster, jumppack booster.
more weapons, especially specialized anti air missles for example.
'any kind of discussion of randomness ALWAYS WILL EQUATE to being able to critically hit a mech's reactor by firing a micro beam laser while facing 80 degrees to the side, shooting the ground, which would cause a random explosion which would randomly crit his entire team's reactors which would randomly cause the server itself to explode which would randomly generate a strange quark which would randomly hit the earth and randomly randomness randomfapp the shit fapp random!'

Just a fun thought here - what if we had these kinds of 'off map' support options... but they could only function with a TAG laser to direct them?
